Community Announcements and Stuff

Post by [JiF]Timmay! »

From the EA UK forums, which have been getting pounded today... See the post itself for download links.
Given that it is Battlefield 2 patch day we are redicting all EA UK forum visitors to this page. This is to alleviate the very heavy forum traffic that tends to overun the forum server on such occasions. We will restore forum access when possible though that is unlikely to be today, in the mean time we apologise to those of you who use this forum for games other than the Battlefield series, however these measures are currently unavoidable.

It should be noted that we are aware the forum has outgrown the server it runs on, an upgrade is currently being worked on and we will have further news on this in the future.

Battlefield 2 1.4 Patch Announcement

First and foremost is the news many of you have been hoping for – the long awaited 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2 goes live today. After much anticipation the new patch featuring the new “Road to Jalalabad” map which is sponsored by Comcast is available for download. We deeply appreciate everyone’s patience during this patch cycle and look forward to playing with you on the new map!

Meanwhile in the Battlefield 2142 tuning beta we are working at a furious pace to incorporate player feedback into our development. Players have commented on all aspects of 2142. From the dynamic new Hover Tank to our new Titan game mode players are making themselves heard. We are pleased that we have already taken steps to improve client and server stability while also making changes to the game experience directly based on player feedback, in game play tactics, and (of course) use of exploits. All of our efforts with the Tuning Beta are to ensure this next step for Battlefield raises the bar for team based FPS games everywhere.

The recently announced Veterans Program gives everyone who has played Battlefield 2 the ability to reserve a soldier name and receive an immediate boost in rank so that they are able to hit the field running. Many of you have established an identity as premiere players on the sandy streets of Karkand or in the skies above Wake Island. This is your opportunity to continue building your legacy in a whole new Battlefield! Veterans also receive an exclusive in-game indicator of their Veterans status and a special verbal taunt in BF2 together with patch 1.4.

Killed the forums for traffic. Guess they don't want to see nasty posts the first day

I see they did not fix the crouch/prone exploit/bug.
I still get killed very efficiently (100%) when an enemy is running at me
shooting while diving into the prone position.
One of their patches has finally hosed my game. :(
In fact it was the only way I was killed on the last server I was on.

This is the first time I've had a problem with BF2.
I've never suffered with the red/blue bug,CTD's, or lockups. :?

Well thats too bad.
I have never noticed any prone exploit thing, but thats probably because I am use to getting killed in so many ways. I never noticed the red/blue thing either. Does not mean they don't exist for me, I just don't see them. In fact I dunno how long Timmay and Beej were on the same server last night before I even noticed them. Maybe its time to take up Hearts.
One good thing about getting old I guess is I don't know I am being abused :)
My PC has a problem where it just hard crashes right to the BIOS sometimes when I play. I don't think its related to the game though. I think its hardware or driver issues. I just updated my BIOS a few days ago and I am hoping that will fix it.

The red/blue bug was nuts.

The thing they did not even try to address was any of the balance issues. My reading of the EA forums was that balance problems were the single most annoying problem in the game. When you buy a game to find that 80% of the maps aren't worth playing because some basic balance problems you begin to feel just a little let down.

I haven't played BF3 in a LONG time...
From what I hear, I'm not missing it at all.

Well after some more playtime with the new patch there is a highlight
(IMO) with all of this. It's the 'infantry only' mode for the server.
Very nice and actually a breath of fresh air for BF2.

Yeah so far my only gripe is with the prone garbage but this new server mode
is a nice touch. Try it out....
 :D

Your not even close to AARP yet. This could be trouble.
Anyway, I don't play it a lot, but I still think its the probably one of if not the best FPS going. In spite if EA :!:
I wish they would dump the commander scan, keep the UAV but drop the long scan.
No vehicles might be a nice change.

BF 2142 Beta Extended Until Sept 12th!

The BF 2142 beta has been a great success, with over 65K people participating so far. To date, over 1000 changes have been made to the game based on beta test feedback.

Based on this, DICE and EA have extended the beta until 9/12, and are making an additional 10K access keys available. The 10K keys will be given away on a first-come, first served basis beginning at 10am PST on Sept 8th, so visit FilePlanet for your last chance to get involved.

- Your Battlefield Team
Dunno if this requires you to buy a FP subscription, though...

edit: it doesn't - I got a key. :D sign up quick before they're all gone

I really hate to say it, but its pretty cool. I gave it a little try. Actually mostly watched Doc give it a try while I was working on a window near the computer and it looks pretty fun.

Looks like they ended the "tuning beta" a little early - the account servers have been shut down and the beta no longer works. Guess it's uninstall time.

I liked it but still think I need to give it a pass if they're going to make me change my player name.
