ArmA: Combat Operations (Armed Assault)

Post by [JiF]Rhykin »

Armed Assault aims to replicate the realism of combat in a highly intense, brand new campaign, all of which takes place on islands that may measure up to 400 square kilometers (about 250 sq. miles): four times larger than the islands of Everon and Malden featured in Operation Flashpoint.

It looks like it's going to be a very nice game. Huge, very destructible, realistic and multiplayer. That's the way I like them

Haven't had a chance to play the demo yet, but this has me drooling. (Edit: I should add that even the trailers are for a mature audience. I definitely will not be playing this game with my kids in my lap.)

I've downloaded the demo, but haven't tried it yet. I'll do it some time this weekend and post my thoughts on it.

So far I've had to think too much. I never see the bad guys. I might have to read some instructions.

I just tried it out. I'm not sure yet. Looks like it has a lot of potential to me. Lots of tactical options, lot of realism. However it definitely seems to have a learning curve.

It looks like Flash Point.
I take my guys and run 2.36 KM and die. Then do it again and again. I guess I don't get it :D

I tried it a while ago and was not impressed at all. To start, the graphics are pretty crappy for the ridiculous hardware requirements. More importantly, the gameplay SUCKS. They have a lot of work to do it on it before it would be worth spending time on.

From the little time I spent with it I think it could might be okay. The graphics seem a little strange. Vehicles kept flashing between rusty and broken looking to normal looking. Dunno what that was about. Had two dead soldiers that were zombie hopping which was strange. I had one of my AI squad members wounded and he just kept crawling around trying to follow. I should have put him our of his pain  Take away the AI, read the instructions, ignore some strange graphic stuff and just maybe it would be fun.
It had a definate Americas Army/Flash Point feel. There were too many things I just did not understand how to do or you actually can't. Like the map screen. Seems like you should be able to do stuff there, but I did not get it.
Anyway it hinted at some potential for a slower paced tactical squad based fun.
