Dammed

I bought 2142 last night, despite having limited playing time this weekend with my father in town. Complaint #1: it wouldn't let me use AlbieDamned for my soldier name! I guess the people running the Men of God server are now supplying the global naming rules for EA. So, I signed up as AlbieDammed.

I played some single player last night and realized I was quite confused. It seems that the bots have all the unlocks! I of course have none. So I kept picking up their kits to play with them. Then I ventured onto some public server before work this morning and managed to accumulate 9 points over 2 rounds. So I'm almost 25% of the way to my first promotion and unlock. Yippee!! I think I'll probably take the grenades unlock first.

Anyway, I'll probably be online at various times this weekend.

It's always bothered my how you can't use
the unlocks in single player...stupid.

I like hopping on single player once in a while
to get the kinks out, get used to new things.
Less chaos so you can figure things out a bit.

Unlocks seem to come more swiftly with this
mod- but you need a lot more too.
I think you should focus on one class, I've
maxed out recon and assault, the weapon
upgrades are worth it.

Yeah, I'll probably go down the tree for one class pretty far before branching out into others. Engineer looks the most appealing to me, with assault second. In BF2 I always liked to play anti-tank, which translates to engineer in 2142. Of course I head that DAO shotgun unlock in BF2 to replace the wimpy submachine gun. But there is no engineer unlock in 2142 to give you a better infantry weapon.

But I think even before the engineer upgrades, I want to get some of the overall player ability ones. Specifically, the frag grenades, extra stamina, and faster stamina recovery ones. I can probably live without the extra clip and extra grenade ones for a while, since I doubt I'll usually be alive long enough to run out.

If you would like to play with the different unlocks to learn them or to figure out which unlock to take next then here is an unlocks mod that gives you all of the unlocks Unlocks Mod v 1.10

It wont affect anything on the regular game so its safe to install the mod and still play regular 2142 online. When I have an unlock available and I'm not sure what I want I try each of my next unlocks for each class to see which will do me more good.

Is that right? Since I don't have any unlocks yet, I have no way to know. Since the bots get all the unlocks all the time, I would have guessed that you do get unlocks in single player.

From what EA/Dice says is that if you have a net connection you can use your unlocks that you get in multiplayer in the single player and even LANs.

Yay! I'm gonna get to 40 points and unlock frag grenades, and then go back to single player to exact some sweet revenge on the bots.

I've managed to get 5 unlocks so far. I took grenades, then defibrilator and upgraded med kit on assault, then defuser and vehicle id helmet on engineer. I'm gonna stick with engineer for the next two for the vehicle detector gadget and then better anti-vehicle weapon. Then probably back to assault to go up the other tree and get the shotgun, infantry id helmet etc.

You can also try field upgrades when your squad wins one. Temporarily unlocks your coice of goodies for a round or so. I unlocked all my player abilities first. I can sprint to a tank now while the other guys are huffing and puffing to catch up. Extra clip unlock was nice too...i usually miss on my first few pistol shots and accidently hit the guy after that (extra rounds helped). :D

Hey Welcome new recruits! Theres what 9 or 10 in our buddy list now (JiF members)

Yeah, I've taken advantage of field upgrades a few times. Problem is, you have to go through two screens. First the Field Upgrade screen, then the Customize screen. A lot of times, I respawn before I'm finished, and of course inevitably someone is waiting to kill me right away. Or even worse, I get revived while I'm still mucking around on the screens.

That reminds me - I took part in an incident yesterday similar to what happened to Grimp, only I was on the good end of it. I was defending in the reactor room of the Titan. I killed a guy who had gone prone outside the reactor room. Then he got revived by someone who was out of sight for me, around a corner. So I killed him again. This went on about a half dozen times. A few times I got a glimpse of the guy doing the reviving and once or twice I think I managed to get a bullet into him, but I don't think I ever killed him. I couldn't throw a grenade because we had friendlies running around the area too.

Edit: I have Grimp, Step, Sandretzky, and BigJ on my buddy list. Who else is playing that I should add?

When I get a field upgrade I click on a spot on the map and that removes you from any selected spawn points so you don't respawn while making your selections.

I don't think I have you on my buddy list yet, it should be under Lonewolfwd.

I took the smoke grens as a field upgrade. They are pretty much useless.
Not much smoke and don't last very long. You'd be better off lighting up a cigar.

Except that smoking has long since been banned by the year 2142. :D Anyway I think the only reason people take smoke grenades is to get to the assault rifle upgrade. That Voss weapon seems to be very popular. Since you can only equip two of the 4 miscellaneous items, I'm sure most assault people take the defibrilator and either the shotgun or rocket launcher rifle attachments. I doubt many take the smoke grenades.

Yeah, you can't smoke, but you can kill everyone in sight apparently. Good to see our logic continues to improve in the future ;)
