Has anyone ever tried out World War II Online: Battleground Europe? I came across it today while wikipedia surfing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWIIOL
It sounds pretty intense. The focus on realism probably appeals to a bunch of us, possibly including me. But before I decide whether to jump into it, I'm curious if anyone else ever has.

I've played it in the dorms with a friend of mine. it's got a lot of realistic aspects to it such as the flight simulation and vehicle driving. Visually it on the same level as Second Life... and the gameplay physics really tries to stay true to RL physics (which there isn't much of). The war encompass HUGE amounts of land and the local battles are played out on a similarly large (but often bland) interconnected territories. Each town or section of territory has a basic spawn that some one up the chain of command chooses how to supply (weapons and vehicles) and the players join in and use those resources. My friend had enough rank to pilot a bomber... he sent it to bomb the enemy head quarters (autopilot) and it took nearly 30 min to make it up and back (gives you an idea of how large the main map is). The dog fights/piloting as well as bunker towns in general were the most interesting mainly because of the amount of players trying to capture the town. The thing I noticed is that it took a really long time to traverse the map on foot and not a lot of reward - by the time I got to my destination I'd usually be killed because the enemy units would already have all the strategic locations camped and occupied. Fun if you join a team of people who've already mapped out a takeover strategy .... hardly any fun if you're on your own.
