The other side...
The other side...
As we seem to have a couple of musicians among the JiF members and regulars, I wonder: Do we also have any more fellow hifi fans (alias audiophiles or simply music lovers who also have a heart for nice playback equipment)?

Re: The other side...
I think that I would be one of those. I am not into vinyl but at one point my cd collection was well over 700cds.
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Re: The other side...
Dj: So what stuff are you running (I spare you my own equipment list for now, 'cause that would be rather exhaustive...)? And, of course, it's a pity you aren't into vinyl - 'cause then we could have bored the others with an endless chat for example about needle tip shapes and cantilever materials. But no worries: If got a fair share of audio cds (and players... ) as well - nevertheless I find turntables more interesting than cdps, 'cause the former offer more of a hands on experience and one has much more possibilities to fine-tune the sound to one's liking and to the sound of the recording. Drawbacks are of course less convenient operation and that vinyl requires more care...

Re: The other side...
I have two separate sets of equipment for the house.
Upstairs I have an old Pioneer Amp, CD changer, and (cough) double cassette deck that I am reluctant to part with paired with Paradigm Titans, Paradigm Atoms, and a Paradigm Unpowered sub. This was the first stereo that I ever owned and it still performs pretty well despite being about 15 years old. I started out with Mission speakers but I found the sound quality much better with the Paradigms.
Downstairs is a work in progress as I am still in the process of finishing the basement. I am trying to make the basement as soundproof as possible. Right now I think my biggest problems with sound transmission are the doors and transfer through the ductwork.
In the basement I have a Yamaha HTR-6190 paired with the Bose Acoustimass 10 series speakers.
I prefer the sound of the Paradigms over the Bose system but when it comes to home theatre the Yamaha/Bose combo kicks butt.

Re: The other side...
melon, zouga: Nice collections!
dj: Yup, I can easily imagine that the Bose speaker system can't compete with the Paradigms for stereo use. I've got some surround stuff (also including a Yamaha receiver (RX-V650 - whereas yours should be the home theater pack version of the juicier RX-V1800, afaik...)) as well, but that doesn't get much use now, as my place in Munich is quite a bit smaller than it was in Hannover, for which I had originally bought that equipment. But even for stereo my power amp (Harman-Kardon hk870) as well as the power amp sections in my integrated amps and receivers don't get used that much, because I usually rather use headphones than loudspeakers. And for listening to cds I often enough don't even use any of the bigger, stationary stuff at all - but instead my "little sofa chain" (consisting of a fairly decent Panasonic portable cdp (SL-CT570), a portable headphone amp (Meier-Audio PortaCorda II) and a headphone pick of choice (most often the AKG K240S and the Beyerdynamic DT531)).
