Since Chrismas and Santa are only round the corner it is not unreasonable to assume that some of you will be getting your hands on some new tech this week, most notably joysticks,
I expect that the skies will be full of new pilots who suddenly find that the planes in Battlefield are actually quite easy to fly if you have the right hardware.
This is most disturbing to me, as I was that guy last year, now I expect to get shot down a lot more.
i don't know if any of you know much about Long Term US Military Doctrine but there is an element called the technological Imperative
Basically it goes like this
The US Military must have Technological Superiority over all enemies and allies (in case they become enemies)
US Military Technology must only be sold to allies, and only when the US has the capability to destroy any such Technology in a conflict situation
This is one of the things that has led to the development of so many fighter planes, even after the Cold War, during which Arms Racing with the USSR was a major factor.
So when the F-14 was developed it cost so much to get it online that it had to be sold to other countries to pay for it,
this led to the F-15 being developed in order to be able to shoot the F-14 down.
However the F-15 cost even more to develop so loads of them had to be sold to pay the bills.
These sales led, in turn, to the development of the F-16 & F-18 respectively.
The cycle repeated and has now led to the development of the F-22 Raptor, which is the most expensive fighter aircraft ever produced. so guess what, the US now needs to sell some of them to pay the gas and electricity charges and the mortgage. Unfortunately they can't because
-It is so advanced that it is gonna be almost impossible to build a manned aircraft to shoot it down
-The european nations now have the EuroFighter - a plane that CANNOT fly without the computers onboard, take them away and it will drop like a stone; a plane that also had to have its manouvreability limited, as it would kill the pilot if it were not restricted; a plane that went £10bn over budget and which by the time it was introduced in 2003 was already obselete http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon
-No one needs a plane this advanced because there is no one to shoot against except the Russians, and who wants to go to war with them?
To quote an analyst from Jane's: In the end, good as the air displays were this afternoon a nifty display isn't enough to make these two planes worthwhile. About the only way either could really pay its way would be in a fight against the other.
Anyway the point of this is that i now need to up the stakes and regain my technological edge in the skies
To whit: I am prepared to sell my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick to an 'Ally' for as much as I can get on the export market
But I will use the money to buy one of these:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/cyx.htm
One of these
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x52.htm
Or maybe, God forbid, one of these!!
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/yoke.htm
Then you will all be in big trouble, and I will be single (don't think She would put up with that )

That logic oddly enough makes sense...
Since I do not have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick (only a Logitech Attack 3 (no twist rudder)) I will happily take yours of your hands and sell my old model to another ally...

I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

zouga there is still a problem: if u have a brand new plane with eveything u can dream of but not a compatibel computer system to use all this stuf then its not worth a penny. same with ur new joystick (since i m getting it for xmass my parenst asked my if i did not prefer to get one for 80 bucks instead of the cheap extrem 3d pro) it might have allot of buttons maybe even a force feedback....only problem is that bf 1942 doesnt need that many buttons and does not support the forcefeed back or such, so after xmass ull be a poor US citizen with crapy technology and u will have to ask ur allied if they mind selling u an the old technology or ull have to update ur computer system and stop play that old bf42 and go for bf 2142 or 2 expantion
If we make prisons a living hell for them, then we might just be sending out devils once they are released. Cruel methods to achieve discipline are a thing of the past! So, keep on dancing! Byron F. Garcia.

I got disinteressed of all that eurofighter crap when the formerly "Jäger 90" (Starfighter 90) got renamed to "Eurofighter" and at least in this year still has not got one single missile system as there where technical difficulties with pylon and weapon interface.
The "stealth fighter" is also somehow... (I am censoring myself here it´s too ridiculous to construct a plane with one single AA missile and no other weapons on board).Only so much: old "Fledermaus" RADAR as implemented in FlAKPz "Gepard" still detects "stealth" planes. And that might be because all of that system is pure antique analog stuff.
MIG29 would be my plane of choice, the only fighter plane that can outmaneuvre any AA missile.
Or for ground attacks the good ole A10(never knew why they were discontinued...greatest US plane i know) or the worlds only heavy assault helicopter Mi24HindF.
For joysticks... there WAS a great one from Saitek, sadly discontinued nowadays. Don´t recall the name but sturdy metal case, thruster and stick seperate cases and all fully customizable buttens even rediractable to chosen keys(keyboard simulation so to speak).
As long as USB sticks and mouse tend to hang unpredictably sometimes, i would still favour the antique system over 15 pin D-SUB soundcard plug. 3 axis, four buttons... almost enough for bf1942 planes.
The only system upgrade i would buy would be something with considerably less ping. 150 msec minimum leads to strange, very strange gaming expierience.

I have a rather nice looking Saitek Cyborg Evo. This looks like something out of the Terminator and I'm sure is a very good joystick. It certainly has lots of buttons, lights and a mini joystick (hat) as well. If you are feeling adventurous it has some knurled wheels to alter the stiffness or weighting of the joystick I think.
btw I use the keyboard and mouse to fly whenever I am feeling dangerous.
