Food for thought...

Post by [JiF]55GaLLoNdrUm »

Wildcat said something in a game a while back that in my eyes rings true. "People don't apologize for TKs anymore..." Or something along those lines. He's right. I have noticed that these days most people don't apologize for TKs, but rather go on about their game as if nothing happened. Not good. What's worse is the reason that no one apologizes anymore. TKs seem to have increased drastically over the past few months. They've become so common that no one thinks to say sorry anymore.
We must stop this epidemic! We must encourage others to look at their mini-map, to be more considerate of their teammates, to watch what they are doing and play smart. JiF is the ultimate team server, and we must no allow ourselves to fall victim to bad habits. JiF may very well be the last safe haven for purists, for those individuals who truly understand the concept of teamwork and how the game is supposed to be played. We must find a solution to this TK problem.
And, folks, if elected to JiF, I assure you that I will do everything in my power to eradicate this epidemic and restore decency and discdretion to the JiF nation!
Look for future posts, where I will explain how, and what else I can do for this great server!
Remember, my fellow JiFFers, vote 55 in 2008!
I'm 55GaLLoNdrUm, and I approved this message.

Agreed!!!!!! I can get a little bent out of shape if I see TKing and people not saying at least a quick 'sry'. You probably remember me taking that issue up with a regular just last week. It makes no difference if it's a [JiF]er getting TKed or a 1st time visitor! If you TK someone you say "sry!" It clears up the difference between an over-excited nade/zook/gundown VS a deliberate TK by someone being disruptive. Plus it's just good sportsmanship!

Yeah, I've been noticing the same thing. I also have seen a couple actually take the time to get off a quick "Damn! Sorry, dude!" after bombing them...then precede to ram a barn/tree/windmill/building/ground/thing. Justice

Good topic.
I've only been plying JiF for a couple weeks, gotta be some of the cleanest players on-line.
I have done my share of accidental tk'ing so I try and give another player the benefit of the doubt if he hits me. Even if there is no apology.
When your in the middle of a fire fight it's kinda hard to stop and do a little chatting.

Also, if I get a "sry" I always try to type in a "np" (no problem).

I try to apologize even if I accidentally mistake a teamate for the enemy and take a shot and do not score a TK.

Now a dumb question... how long after a TK happens should you apologize? I know with the spawn time and all the "Roger That!" and other messages that may appear, the recipient may or may not see the message. Do you say it immediately and then repeat it if you do not get a response?
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Don't let it slide, complain to the offender and/or an admin.

You have to consider the context. If I am trying to mine or expak a tank and get killed by someone on my team also trying to take out the tank, then that is the price of doing business. In an evening of gaming you are literally making hundreds of shoot/no shoot decisions. You are bound to make a couple of wrong decisions. Also remember that sometimes the offender can't say 'sry' if they are in the middle of trying to stay alive. They might not realize that they tk'd someone if the fighting is intense. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt. People will reveal their true colors over the longer term. That's why idiots get weeded off the JiF server. Eventually they reveal their true colors and the admins take action. Politely pointing out a tk is good. Being combative is not productive. (The difference between asking "Why the tk?" and "YOU IDIOT! YOU TK'D ME!".) Take the high ground and know the idiots will be weeded out.

Fully agree with Tissue.
Tips: When there is a lot messaging going on and I think I by mistake have TK'd and if I have time I use the console and look in the log to see if that's the case
and then say sorry. Note that the console-log can be scrolled with page-up/down. I access the console with the "§"-key on my swedish keyboard.

Please guys, realize that I am not whining. You will notice most of my posts are and will be on the general board. I post things like this because I see them as good topics for discussion, not because I have an issue. I understand completely the nature of TKs and that it can't be avoided sometimes. I also know that a TK can easily go unnoticed by the culprit by no fault of his own. TKs happen to me a lot because of my style of play. No big deal. And when they do, I am always polite and courteous about the situation, giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. A lot of people just don't care, though.
JiFFers and most of the server's regulars, though, do care. You guys believe in teamwork, consideration, and playing smart. You really understand how the game is meant to be played. That is why I have thrown my name in the hat to be a JiFFer. I want to be visibly associated with the classiest group of players that I know of. I am practically one of you already. I think the tag would just make it official. I've got some ideas I think you guys might like, too...
