Football - or lack thereof

Post by [JiF]zougathefist »

I feel that I should keep quiet about this but I am making an effort to try and garner some sympathy.

Some of you may have noticed that I am quite subdued on the topic of Football (that is the real football, with a round ball that is played with the feet not the hands!), especially whan compared to my vocalisations on the general greatness of the Spurs last season and the one before,

Well here's why.....

Image

Yes thats right, that is the once mighty Spurs, safely nestled away at the bottom of the table, enduring our worst start to a football season in some 100 years!!
7 games - 0 wins - 2 draws - 5 losses - 4 goals scored - 10 goals let in - 2 measly points

The ultimate humiliation coming on sunday past when we were beaten 1-0 at home by Hull, Hull for godsakes, newly promoted to the league, a so-called 'whipping boy' The only consolation I can find is that Hull beat the Arsenal last week as well  , scant consolation I know, but you have to take these things when you're a Spurs fan

this is why I have decided to forsake talking about football for the rest of the year!

or at least until we can actually beat someone :D

Real Football?
I dare say the only thing the two games have in common is the name, aside from that there is no similarity.

American football to us Yanks is just as real as European football/soccer to you guys and I think you'd get quite the argument from any American football fan on whats real.

Geez you sound like a Buffalo Bills fan, if your not on top you belly ache .

The whole point of being a fan is standing proudly by your team win lose or draw, I've been a N.Y. GIANTS and a N.Y. Islanders fan since 1977.
You wanna talk basement seasons :o I've endured so many losing seasons it isn't funny, but regardless of making the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup I stay right there and stick with it because that's what REAL fans do?

Now stop feelin sorry for yourself :( and enjoy the season no matter how it turns out! :)

See ya out there!

ah FT, the voice of reason.

alas I fear you have missed the point,
One of the few comforts of being a spurs fan is that you get to feel sorry for yourself on regular occasions, in fact its almost expected, as we build up our hopes at the start of every season, spend a fortune on new players and underachieve in spectacular style year after year.
truth be told, I wouldn't have it any other way
(unless we could win the Champions League, Premiership, FA cup.....)

Atleast your teams make more frequent visits to the top than mine FT.

The last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the cup I wasn't even born yet, and yet we still have a sell-out crowd at almost every game (granted most of the ticket holders are corporations as the average Joe can't afford to go to every game) and it is almost cheaper for me to drive to Buffalo, fly to Ft. Lauderdale, buy tickets there, watch game there, fly back, and drive back home than it is to attend a game 1 hour away from home, pay for parking and spend the night in a hotel.

And then there is the Minnesota Vikings who have never won a SuperBowl and the last SuperBowl game appearance was one year after I was born. They are currently 1 win and 3 losses and are ahead of the Detroit Lions by one game (sorry Melon), 25th overall (but effectively tied for 2nd last place if we lose tonight), and playing another tough team tonight (New Orleans Saints).

And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Viking Update :D

Woohoo!!! The Vikes pulled off a much needed win over the Saints, a field goal with 14 seconds to go! Pretty crazy game last night.

That makes the Vikings tied for 2nd in their division, 1 win back of first and 20th place overall.

Well... I cant say much about the state of spurs, coz I'm a Toon fan... :?
why that prat Mike Ashley bought the club seem only to obvious ( to make money and not buy players and spend on the club what is needed)
shame we cant find a buyer, and bring kegan back to build a team like he did in the past with player like Tino Asprilla, David genola and many other players
that made up King Kev's Newcastle
Ashley said he wasn't prepared to spend more than 15 - 20 million per season on the club
that's a joke considering the price of top flight players and the General running of things.
Bring back the days when we could beat Barcelona and played sexy football

Hope the spurs get it sorted out as a do for "The Toon"

could always send in the zooka squad

if we get rid of Ramos then Keegan will come to us
Personally I'd like to see the back of Comoli, he is a big problem, like Wise was at the toon, stoopid a$$ Directors of Football.
last year Jol wanted Aryen Roben for midfield support for Berba and Keane - Comoli bought Darren (can't score) Bent.
we stopped scoring and Jol got the sack.

Don't laugh but I first read the thread topic as 'Footfall - or lack thereof'. I was wondering where the heck it was heading when I read these references to football and american football !
