Hey All,
I have 2 60gb laptop hard drives that have been hanging around the house. I want to sell them on eBay and get some coin for them.
I'm looking for the easiest way to clean the drives to nothing so I can resell. I know I could always create a boot disk and fdisk the hard drive with an old school floppy, but there has to be some easier non dos way. Seeing if loading the XP cdrom and get to the create partition section and just delete the partition and I would be safe.
Any assistance in giving peace of mind that the hard drives are clean and able to be sold would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I go to the manufacturers web site and download their utility software and then have it write all 0's to it which makes it like a new drive again. When the software writes 0's to it there will be no recovering anything off the drive afterwards.

Do you mean the manufacturer of the hard drive, or the laptop it was yanked from?
Thanks

The hard drive manufacturer. I know Western Digital and Seagate both have the software on their sites and I'm sure the other companies would also have something on theirs. If you can't find any thing for your hard drive post up the manufacturer of the hard drive and I'll see if I have a copy of the software or see if I can find a copy of it.
I would also be interested in one of the drives. It wouldn't have to be any certain brand as I have a portable hard drive enclosure that uses laptop hard drives and I don't have a hard drive for it.

Downloaded the .iso for DBAN. Took about 3 hours for a 60gb disk. It said it was complete.
Beej... Is it safe to say the drive is wiped?
Thanks

Hello,
The DBAN worked great for the IDE drive stuff. I have 6 SCSI drives that I would like to wipe also. Bad thing is I don't have SCSI on my PC. I do have @ my disposal, SCSI PCI cards with ribbon cables. I was seeing how to let the PC know that I have a scsi drive connected via PCI bus when I boot up the DBAN program that looks for first boot device?
Or is there a nifty device or adapter out there that I can use to change a scsi drive into IDE to wipe the drive? I don't mind spending a few bucks for an adapter.
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
