Should we explore adding a goofy/specialty map on CMT?

Post by Lonewolf-McQuade »

I've heard about a 'Zooks only Stalingrad' mod with low gravity, and heard it was a riot. Cannedcorn007 has heard of a 'Stalingrad Knife Fight' mod that sounded cool. Should we explore adding a specialty map like one of these to the collection for CMT**? Once we decide to proceed or not, we can brainstorm which map!* Please feel free to vote & comment why we should or shouldn't!

*Grimps must confirm that it's technically possible to add
**CMT = Custom Map Thursdays
Offer valid where crunchy is better than creamy & void where prohibited

There are already about 10 map packs needed to download for the custom maps, don't really think we need any more.
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Good point, there are a ton of map packs to deal with! I'm willing to load 1 more if it's really fun tho. I'll take a look and see if there's some way to simplify the map installs too.. I think Grimp and I talked about that issue earlier too.

FWIW most of the 'mod' maps like Flying Jeeps on Wake Island™ actually don't require a download. They're server side map mods. Like the Berlin CTF that Grimp has in the regular rotation.

Personally I'm not a fan of the significantly modded maps. They're neat once or twice but get old after that. Oh and knife fights are horribly not fun.

If I am allowed an opinion....

I love the custom maps but there aren't enough people as it is now. Would adding a goofy map help get more people?

But... if you did it, I vote just pistols or perhaps the scout.

I'm almost resigned to the fact that Custom Map Thursday isn't going to draw huge numbers because of the work involved in loading even one map pack alone. The reality is that it's more of a day for us dedicated players to goof off and play exciting maps. If it entertains us then it's a good thing! If we had something crazy in the mix, it may also create buzz.

I would suggest that before we get into specifics of certain maps, lets discuss if we even want to go through the trouble of finding a wierd/specialty map and adding it (why & why not). Then if we decide to proceed we can have a selection thread... :)

About the low grav setting, anybody with access to the Remote Manager can change that setting and make moonwalkers out of everyone. In on the same page as the general settings if my memory served me right as I don't have it installed on my computer at work.

And by the way, playing 'Bull fighter' (a guy with a zook, the rest in jeeps running at him, if zooker kills ya, you become the zooker) on a map like demo derby jeep racing with turbo no self-damage jeeps is a hoot !

I played a wake map that had low gravity jetpacks at every flag.
Try chasing a zero with a jetpack.

*doubletake* wait... when did we all get into country music?

on a more serious note, there used to be a server that ran El Alamien server side modded so ther was a spawn point high in the air in the middle for both sides with a floating ring of airplanes beneath it that you could parachute into, it was great. the server was 36th infantry custom map or something like that, i think i will try to find thier site/ forum if they are still active and perhaps ask for the RFA

also consider serverside modding a map that would have pistols be 1 shot kills. preferably berlin or stalingrad.
That's right, these posts are the result of the dedicated work of me and a room full of monkeys working diligently on our typewriters.

 I was always partial to the pirates mod, it's so much fun. There is one kit called the "drunkard" kit where you have a tankard you beat people over the head with. And drinking rum restores your health!

From last night's experience we should concentrate on maps where you get lots of close play over small area such as Ortona & Karden. With the smaller numbers we have on these occasions, the large spread out maps mean you hardly encounter any opponents.
So mod maps of Berlin & Stalingrad would be good.
