Vista "Upgrade"

Hi All,

I was forced to buy a new comp and it was loaded with Vista. Now when the server switches maps I get booted about %50 of the time. Microsoft says that BF1942 has an patch that solves the problem, but I can't locate it at the site. Any ideas?

Have you downloaded and installed Vista SP1 yet? it's on their download site.

Just ordered Vista Ultimate (full software).

Whatever, fixes you find out - please post....

Yeah I bought a pimping new gaming machine in October and it has Vista. While my Vista works better than those who might try to upgrade from XP, I too have those crashes from time to time on map change.

There is no fix! MS gives that pop-up to pass the buck. Claiming the trouble lies with someone else's software not theirs.

As BF1942 is now 6 years old I seriously doubt there will ever be an update to make it more compatable with Vista. So keep your Vista updated and maybe some combatibility issues with older games will be cleared up. But don't look for DiCE or EA to write a patch for a 6 year old game.

That's weird, I've never had that problem with Vista and I've been running it for a year now. I had all kind of issues, but not that one.

I do run in XP compat.....and runs fine. But every once in awhile I have a client crash at map switch and the MS popup comes up saying there is a compatibility issue and to contact DiCE for patch. The point is there is no patch.

I have tried this as well to no avail. I get a lot of crashes tying to load certain maps.

I got the latest vid card driver too.
I found that it helps to have absolutely nothing else running on the box when playing

Ah, this might be the ticket. If you upgraded to vista and only have 1 GIG mem or less, you're doomed. Vista is an ogre for RAMs as it's got more servives and others useless stuff running than Xp or 98 ever had. So all other applications running have to share that over the read/write to hard drive.

If you have 2 GIG or more and still experience those crashes, you need to quit gaming, become a monk and contemplate the universe.

In Scotland they are trying to ban a trapist beer brewed by monks as it is very strong.
This thread reminds me why I keep insisting on new machines at work here still having XP. The notebooks have to have Vista though.

What I meant to say was some monks brew beer (as Gav pointed out) and some make wine. So yes they do indulge. I had a German beer at Coopers Restaurant in Scranton that was brewed by monks and was not filtered. It had stuff floating in it. If you like beer, Coopers is a good place to go. It is a seafood restaurant with over 150 bottled beers from around the world. I asked for a British ale one time and the waiter asked "bottle or draught"? I said somewhat in surprise, you have that British ald on tap? He replied, "We have five British ale's on tap". It isn't as good as being in a pub (a real one not the franchised ones), but if you are in NE PA it is a good place to go if you like beer variety.

These comments have nothing to do with VIsta. I'm fortunate that the only Vista machine we have is my wife's laptop. We only rely on it for email, ebay and playing solitaire. I'm sticking with XP until the dust settles. I should be able to squeak another year or two out of my gaming PC. And I was careful to get 2 GB of memory on the laptop.
