I love my snow, hi ho, hi ho !

Post by Sir Die-a-lot »

Here are some pics of the after-storm. We had 2 storms in the forecast for wednesday and saturday. And yesterday's was a wopper ! Only 12 inches but winds gusting up to 75 mph.

Anyway, here are the results.
Image
Here's my backyard. Remember that a swiming pool is 56'' high ! And you see on the left in the background the frame of the swing, which is 6' high.

Image
Front of the house, with my old maple that has a 2' trunk. Notice the stop sign that is 7' off the ground in summer !

Image
Backyard again, after shoveling from the back door to the gate, here's the surprise I got : a 3' wall of solid stuff. And when I say solid, I mean solid.

Image
My son, being ever so helpful to the neighbor by adding 40 lbs to his snow bucket !

Image
Him again this time helping my wife on the way back, 'No empty trips mom !'

Image
Me having my cardio and muscular endurance workout in 'the trench' (to give you an idea, I'm 6' tall) ! All in all, it tooks us a wee 4 hours to get the house safe by shoveling all the accesses. I figure another 2 hours tomorrow coming back from work getting rid of what the plow will grace me with ! :?

I shall now be known as Sir Shovel-a-lot.

Thank God there's no snow left here in Boston- and hopefully we've seen the last of it...

We had a foot and a half or so. I had a great time driving in it before they enforced a driving ban :(. It's great on a highway when everyone who's a bad driver is either sitting at home or has their car in a ditch. Everyone drives at a nice, smooth speed (20-40 MPH) and stay a good distance apart from each other.

The brake business would go under if everyone drove like that.

Oh and It was funny seeing people with FWD cars w/o snow tires getting stuck but nice to see everyone helping out. I got out and helped a few of them but one guy had spun his wheels so much I couldn't even push him out. Took 3 people to finally get him a few feet forward so he could finally get going again. He probably ended up in a ditch later. But hopefully closer to home. :)

I had a full section to myself at Bob Evans too.

I have a '98 Toyota Tacoma 4wd that I got stuck in my gf's driveway. Her driveway is about 50 feet long, double width and relatively flat. At the end of the driveway there is a drainage ditch that's about a 2.5 foot drop off the side. Trying to be nice, I had shoveled about 1/4 of the driveway in front of the garage she parks her car so it could get out. Then parked my truck over the freshly shoveled snow so that as it continued to snow, I'd have less to shovel. With a good foot of snow on the driveway, I decided to back out and make a path that way. Unfortunately I couldn't tell where the driveway ended and the ditch began. So backing up I go, and then nothing! A little more gas, nadda, and I realize what I had done. Tried pulling forward, couldn't get any traction. Put it in low 4wd, nadda. Get out and look, my left rear tire is in the ditch, the rear axle is at an angle I've never seen before! Tried throwing some bricks under it for traction, no help. My gf gets in and trys to drive while I push, no help either. Ended up getting my lower half coated in mud as well.

Finally give in and call AAA for a two. It'll be an hour or so before they can get out there. In the mean time, I'm pissed to no ends and start shoveling the entire driveway. Figured the tow truck would need to come in and just pull me forward and he'd need access up there. Whille shoveling a guy and a kid with a skid steer loader is driving by and asked if I wanted them to clear off the driveway. So for $30 bucks he'd do that and if I could find a chain, pull my truck out. I'd gladly pay the 30 bucks for the driveway alone, besides getting my truck pulled out. Then the gf see's what's going on and freaks out. She does have a few cracks in her driveway, but a skid steer isn't going to tear things up. Had to calm her down which was a little harder since I didn't have any cash to pay the guy with...

By that time the tow truck arrived, well less than an hour. He used the extending lift to slide under the back of my truck and get it unwedged that way. He was worried that if he tried to go from the front and pull me forward, it would do damage to the truck. I was probably sitting on the rear differential. It took a few little lifts (one using the spare tire that is mounted under the bed of the truck) but he was able to slide the lift under my two rear wheels and get her up. Luckily there is no apparent damage to the truck, it had lots of ground clearance in the stock configuration. Will need to take the spare off and check it though.

Thankfully there were no picutres taken of this incident!
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

No need for the demon horns, it is pretty actually :D . I don't mind snow that much (except when I hold the shovel) 'cause I like being out in winter doing winter stuff as snowshoe, skying, skating outdoors and just talking walks in the neighbourhood.

Yup, looks like you got just as much as we did here, I was out 5 times alone on Saturday trying to stay ahead of the game. I just ended up making one very large trench and I can no longer see my neighbours houses to the left and right of me when standing in the middle of my driveway.

I'm located near Toronto.
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Oh it all looks so beautiful, so virgin white ahhhhhhh!
Just once it would be nice to get some decent amount of snow. We have had no snow accumulation on any day here near good olde London town.
We were promised 80 mph winds last night, Zouga got them on the South Coast!!!!! We just seemed to get a gentle lambkin breeze.

I have a daughter of 11 who is missing out in life. In all of her 11 years we have never had enough snow to break out a sledge & go & fly down the local golf course slopes!
When I was young it seemed like every winter we were out with sledges, large plastic sacks or whatever you could use.
Now nada, zip, nothing, zilch, rien !!!!!
