Back in the saddle again

Post by [JiF]Toriq »

Hiya JiF folks and others. Been playing on the Pot Luck BF1942 server for about a week now and it's been tremendous fun! Thanks much!

Who am I? No one special that's for sure...in game I mean - well life too! Not surprising at all. I first played BF1942 in 2003 (I can't believe bftracks.net still has the old 2003 stats! What a blast from the past.) Then I burned out some on gaming in general and life took some rough turns, you probably know how it works. Didn't last long, though. Anyway, my old friend, you know him as LTStarbuck, used to watch me play way back when, but he always had an old junker for a PC that couldn't run squat. Well, he finally got a nice new PC and then he started playing with you guys and convinced me to start again. He even gifted me with the 9.99 full collection! What a guy! (I only had the original BF1942 disk none of the expansions at the time.) I'm glad he brought me back. I'm a fairly quiet-type in games, but maybe I'll re-install TeamSpeak one of these days and see about joining the TS server. Plenty of advantages when you can talk to your teammates.

Anyway, not to be going too long here, a bit about me...

Been gaming since the days of Pong. Heck, I remember back in '77 or so when my folks gave me a Pong "console" to plug into the TV! Man, how far has gaming come since then. Young folks have no idea! Anyway, I never stopped. Have played pretty much everything, lots of MMOs (started back with original M59 the UO beta yada-yada), FPS, etc, etc, (Planetside was a blast at first). Guess you can tell by that first line that I'm not a young duck. Turned 40 not too long ago, been married to my beautiful wife for 13 years, and have 2 kids - a 7 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son. (Nope, haven't gotten them into PC gaming yet, but they're hooked on that DS. Boy oh boy, those would have been nice to have as a kid instead of the handheld blinking-dashed football games and such!) I was born in Washington, DC and have lived my entire life in northern virginia, Vienna to be specific. Still live in virginia, but had to move away from that area. Way to much congestion for me nowadays! So, I now live out near Front Royal (Canoe capitol of the world :o ) on top of a mountain. Well, I guess the Blue Ridge mountains are mountains, but I just call them big hills. Luckily, I have broadband up here. Never thought that would be the case out in the sticks! But, it is and I'm one happy camper.

So, just wanted to drop in and say hi to you all since you see me, err I mean kill me, lots in game now. I swear, one day I will go buy a joystick and learn to fly too!

Guess that was a bit longer than I anticipated. Life is nice when you telecommute for work!

Peace,

Toriq

PS - Apologies on that little spat I had with that [Aqua Aqua] USA USA USA fellow a few days back. I already said I can't fly, so Coral Sea map means I just man AA guns and try to kill enemies landing on carrier. So this guy comes up behind me on the AA gun and shots me dead in the back. Huh? I asked wtf that was about and he says something like "you were at 1/2 health anyway and not doing anything so who cares?" Well, sorry, but that REALLY ticked me off and we got into it a bit. However, I never TKed him back. Don't do that except by accident. Hope that didn't color the perceptions of any of the people that were on that night and heard it in chat.

PPS - If you read all that then congrats! xx

welcome aboard, I dont wanna even think about how many kills I gave ya yesterday.
I have decided to produce and sell a strong alcoholic drink called "Responsibly".
That way everyone in the country can get wasted drinking Responsibly.
And all the other drinks makers will be advertising for me on their cans with the slogan "please drink Responsibly".
Probably will annoy the government as well.

Hey Toriq. Glad you like the server and welcome to the forums.

It ticks everyone off and I believe we booted him shortly thereafter. TKing is a no-no and anyone who does it on purpose on our server gets the boot.
PPS - If you read all that then congrats! xx
I made it to Pong and then skipped ahead to the post-scripts. :)

Hey me too. It's funny, until I got on the forum I sort of figured I was playing a lot of younger guys. Now I've been on here a few months I feel quite young again, all this talk of retirement! I've still got about 25 years to go before that.
I remember getting my 1st pong one Christmas. My brother & I played it so much it wrecked our parents tv. Ours was better than other peoples because it had skeet shooting with a gun as one of the games.
We used to play a platform game at school, then when work got it's 1st pc's a friend gave me Doom. I can't remember how long I played that at work. The 'overtime' I used to do. Then it was on to Doom 2, then Duke Nukem. After that I got in to the Age of Empires series. (Any one still awake? ) Then on a whim I bought 1942, don't know why, divine guidance from the man above! (& no I don't live in an apartment block).
