Don't Taze me bro!

Did that guy look all that threatening to deserve to get tazed? I liked the part where the one officer was explaining to the other how he had been "jumping all around".

You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
Re: Don't Taze me bro!
In my opinion, there was no reason to taze him, John Kerry just didn't want to answer a hard question...

Did you watch the video? It's not the same "Don't taze me bro" guy, but a man in Utah getting pulled over for speeding, then getting tazed and the officer not quite telling a second officer that responded exactly what happened.[JiF]rIot wrote:In my opinion, there was no reason to taze him, John Kerry just didn't want to answer a hard question...

National Past-time: The Tazer Tango
I'm glad that you started this thread because now I have a venue for my 'taser rant!'
So lately there's been a disturbing national trend of serious injury and fatalities due to taser use that may or may not have been questionable on the part of the law enforcement involved. The media has been working itself to a froth with dash-cam footage, local news footage, and average Joe with a digicam footage of everyday people doing the newest dance sensation in the USA, the taser tango. Usually it involves one misguided 'normal' person, and one or several law enforcement personnel with what appears to be an itching to do a forceable version of the electric slide. The media would have you believe that it's a crisis, all these taser deaths and injuries, and it is indeed a tragedy at the least! But I tend to fall into this school of thought:
If you don't want to run the risk of injury or, unfortunately, possible death.. DON'T FIGHT WITH THE POLICE! Golly that's simple to figure out. They have guns, they have clubs, and they have tasers! They also have a job to do that the average person wouldn't touch. You have the right to remain silent and get a lawyer. So stfu and do it Einstein! I can't talk about the old days because I've only graced this planet for about 28 years, but wtf ever happened to respecting the police? Yeah you're pissed about the speeding ticket and the injustice in the world. How dare that cop talk to you like that, ticket you, or ask you to let others talk at a public forum! Meanwhile somewhere out in the world children are being sold into slavery, and people are getting violently killed because of their religion. WTF ever happened to having a little perspective! Yes you do have rights, and yes people died so you could have them! But acting like an entitled sniffling little candy-ass baby isn't a right as far as the constitution is concerned, so until your lobby can get that amendment added.. DON'T FIGHT WITH THE POLICE! My guess is that 99.9999% of the time you will lose. The only level playing field is a court of law.. (on a good day.)

Re: Don't Taze me bro!
That's the problem. It's not an issue of fighting with the police because that's not what's going on.several law enforcement personnel with what appears to be an itching to do a forceable version of the electric slide
You get clearly deranged individuals receiving badges and do what they want with those badges.
I've read articles of people being tazed to death because they were tazed and then told to "GET UP!!" and can't because of the tazing so they get more...like some sick joke by a sick cop. Disabled people being tazed because they did not comply to get out of their wheel chair....are you serious???!!!
School girl having her arm broke because she didn't clean up the crumbs from a spilled cake on the sidewalk...
Tasers are supposed to be the last response before lethal action, however, police now use them as if they are batons or pepper spray.
In the last year over 300 people have died in admitted cases in the US alone from being tased.
It's good law abiding citizens exercising their First Amendment and speaking their minds and questioning
authority and so they get tazed for it. It's your right as an American citizen to question authority and speak your mind...it's what the
found fathers fought for...they put checks and balances in place in the Constitution for a reason...unfortunately those have been eviscerated thanks to some recent acts passed that nearly give a President dictator powers...
Unfortunately most people are being conditioned to accept this tazing as ok and a result of speaking your mind...DON'T FIGHT WITH THE POLICE! My guess is that 99.9999% of the time you will lose. The only level playing field is a court of law.. (on a good day.)
Last I checked the law or justice system is far from a level playing field.
People need to start asking more questions instead of being force-fed from the corporate/military industrial complex (fascist) spun media.
I do not usually reply to these things here at JiF (gaming community...not political community) but this subject is very sensitive and I had to make my stand albeit briefly. Politics, Geo-Politics and so on is a serious subject but it's really really good at dividing gaming teammates in a flash...I've been there.
I've watched a racing league I was in 6 yrs ago crumble because of this kind of inside disagreements...
I'm sure I missed a few other points here but I am very concerned over the tazoring...it's NOT "ok" and shouldn't be accepted in these situations of asking questions or standing up for yourself..
*cough* Ron Paul for President *cough*

Re: Don't Taze me bro!
Well my 'rant' was supposed to be tongue in cheek. I am, as any reasonable human being should be, very concerned about the abuse of this 'tool.' I do agree that it's being used as a deterrent and not being taken seriously as a possible lethal means of law enforcement. There are a lot of reasons why this type of force should not be applied and your examples of mentally disabled or physically disabled people is right at the top of the list. In many cases the level of force used was not justified, and my naive faith is that the judicial system will sort some of that out. These points, to me, go without saying.
However, I also wanted to draw attention to the flat out morons who believe that they are entitled to more rights than the average person for some unknown and extraordinary reason. These are the folks that you see on videos acting like jackasses, and treating law enforcement with complete contempt. I have not been conditioned to believe that law enforcement should be able to trample peoples rights. I studied constitutional law in college, and I have the utmost regard for the civil liberties that make this country great. But some of these idiots have to understand that your job when interacting with the police is to balance the safeguarding of your rights with the understanding that for safety reasons they are trained dominate and control the situation. Because we have a judicial system 'making a stand' in some of these situations is pointless, and only creates chaos that can put you, the officer, and the surrounding public at risk. Case and point is the 'Don't Tase Me Bro' guy. If he'd have gone to court, people would have been long talking about the significance of the ruling on civil liberties. Instead his poor choice made the issue into office water-cooler joke. He really stood up for the cause alright. I do believe that the taser should not have been used in this case, but people have to understand that the police have to control the situation as a matter of public safety. This guys irrational and aggressive behavior only agitated the situation, and put the very-much human and fallible police presence in a position of having to make a quick decision for the surrounding public and themselves. Yes they made a poor choice in using the taser, but my observation in this 'type' of situation is that it takes two to do the taser tango!

Re: Don't Taze me bro!
I think a little wisdom can resolve this for the most part "Don't start nothin you can't finish" or better yet
"think before you act"
The kid who got tasered during the Kerry speech was being charged with (Intent to encite a riot) and that's where campus police had probable cause, and by resisting as he did he just compound the problem by giving them justification for use of the taser.
As for the speeder who got popped I believe that was excessive and unwarrented, but he could have helped himself if he had just excepted the ticket and didn't mouth off. Now from what I gather the local officials of the state the highway patrolmen works for think so to and maybe justice will be served, but who knows.
In any event it come down to common sense and being able to take responsibility for your actions regardless of how you may feel, whether justified or not, good day or bad you're responsible.
This is my take on the whole thing, but maybe I'm wrong?

Re: Don't Taze me bro!
I think the "intent to incite a riot" were charges trumped up on him to try and warrant the action taken by
the event security.
Whatever happened to just escorting someone from the premises? He wasn't being aggressive that I observed.
It may have been out of line to some people but Kerry did offer to try and answer it no matter. Even he was little taken back from
the events that transpired.
These things happen more often than people realize. I have seen alot of these videos and it upsets me a great deal. There is no reason for it....the officers are
not in harm's way..... no lethal action is taken against them.
EXAMPLE #1
I'm sure some of you seen the example above... He was getting ready to leave and security tased him. As a result of the tasering he couldn't stand...they told him to stand up, but he couldn't so they tasered him again...and again till he pissed himself.
All because he didn't have his ID on him.....It's getting almost Gestapo-like---"show your papers or else". There's another phrase for what's
happening....ahh yes - Police State.
EXAMPLE #2
ARTICLE from my ARCHIVE #1
ARCHIVE ARTICLE #2
Be aware the video at bottom of article #2 may be graphic to some --- arm getting broken.
The scales are tipping....where it ends up depends on us.
I rarely ever watch the mainstream news/media. Inform yourselves....ask questions....never accept the spin that is corporate
driven.

You have to read multiple sources and be good at drawing conclusions nowadays to get any information from media! A 20 second soundbyte just doesn't cut it! =P Where's David Brinkley when you need em?

Re: Don't Taze me bro! (NOT THE SAME GUY)
Did you all even watch the video posted? This was about a guy and his pregnant wife and young child in the car getting pulled over in Utah for speeding. I thought the officer jumped the gun (pun intended) and tazed the guy when he didn't seem to be a threat and was curious about what some of the JiF members in law enforcement thought. THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH KERRY OR POLITICS (well except for the title).

Re: Don't Taze me bro! (NOT THE SAME GUY)
I did! No politics in it at all. Only political thing I see is the thread title, which is pretty strongly associated with that John Kerry stuff.[JiF]KellysHero wrote:Did you all even watch the video posted?
I ain't law enforcement but I think the police gave the guy an excellent demonstration of why you shouldn't give people pointing a weapon at you a lot of crap. This was about a guy and his pregnant wife and young child in the car getting pulled over in Utah for speeding. The guy seemed to think that a traffic stop is a good time to argue with the police. That he had his pregnant wife and child with him means, to me anyway, that he should have put a bit more effort into not being such a dork. He could have totally avoided all of that - he could probably have even talked his way out of the ticket. Instead, he was giving the cop a hard time from the start.
