Almost Back!
Hi all,
With help from a number of good hearted Jiffers, I almost have a new computer.
My 'budget' computer ended up not being as budget as I would have liked. I talked myself into buying new everything including monitor keyboard and mouse. The monitor and vid card showed up today and everything else should show up tomorrow.
I already bought TF2 and BF2 is coming.
My current computer I bought in 2001 and would barely play BF and HL2 was almost un-playable.
I'm looking forward to revisiting HL2 and Doom and getting back on the servers again.
Anybody know of a good online guide for assembling a new computer? I am mostly clueless...
Cheers!

I wish I could be back...ever since a couple weeks ago, my computer has been giving me A LOT of trouble with the Source engine...it's weird. Congrats on the new PC! Can't wait to play w/ you in the server...once I'm running again...I'm feeling a reformat but it's against my will!

Cool, what did you end up getting? Details! Details!
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Re: Almost Back!
Here's a good starter:
http://www.waterwheel.com/Build_A_PC/build_PC.htm
Couple notes. Your motherboard won't have any jumpers that you have to set. They should be all preset and you should be able to use your bios to make changes.
Make sure you install your memory modules in the right spots. Figure out which is the 1st slot and which is the 4th slot before you install your motherboard. A lot of times it's hard to see once you've got it all set up.
Make sure you use a static discharger. You can pick one up at radio shack if you didn't get one included in all your gear but I have one that attaches to my wrist and then attaches to something that can take any discharges.

Re: Almost Back!
With rebates, I was within about $100 of my $1000 target...
I couldn't pass up the new monitor mouse and keyboard though
So much for responsible spending...
I'll save the money spent in electricity by running the LCD right?

Re: Almost Back!
Ok so while someone was nice enough to start a new pc post I figure i will steal some of your thunder. So at the last nor easter in april lane was nice enough to fit me with
a dual core extreme from intel, very nice. It sat in my house till this weekend when I decided that I should probably use this $1,000 processor thats been sitting for 6 months.
So I went to a computer show up in NH and dropped $735 to make it happen. Heres what the rig is comprised of...
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked 320MB GDDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130038
Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.93GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115001
ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131073
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811119068
2 gigs of DDR2 800 off brand memory
80 gig sata WD hard drive
630 watt PSU
Needless to say it was a successful computer show experience...And I should be online gaming by the end of this week; I just need to download games off steam
and we all know that that could take a few days
Oh and Batman I have the samsung 931bw which is pretty much the same as your and its great, never had any problems with it. enjoy your new pc, it feels good
after living in the stone age with this old pc im using to finally have something new.

Re: Almost Back!
Very Nice!
I am excited about the new PC and a little surprised everything is working
I like the monitor quite a bit.
Sly was making fun of me for playing BF on the new rig. Nobody is playing TF2 though, and I have not ventured into BF2 much yet.
Happy new computer Beezer!

Re: Almost Back!
I've been wanting to play TF2 and was just waiting for you
Been pretty lonely on TF2, so I have gone onto the BF server a couple times lately.
