Favorite book?
Looking through my collection of books, I have quite a bit to read (voluntarily): 17 books just waiting (plus 21 more on Amazon waiting to be purchased )
I was curious, what would you guys say is your all-time favorite book? (If it's in a series, try and choose just one from that series).
I would have to say Citizen Soldiers is mine.

Although a simple read, I enjoyed The Squire's Tale!

I would have to say mine is Circa 1957.

Re: Favorite book?
"The Colony of Unrequited Dreams", by Wayne Johnston. (The fictionalized biography of Joey Smallwood. The first Newfoundland premier and the last living father of confederation).
(edit # 1)
I should also include: "A Thousand Shall Fall" by Murray Peden about flying the Lancaster for the RCAF in WWII. "Nunaga: Ten Years Among the Eskimos" by Duncan Pride (his response to Farley Mowat's "Never Cry Wolf") and "And No Birds Sang" by Farley Mowat.
(edit # 2)
Oh yes I almost forgot: "Lamb: 'The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal '" by Christopher Moore and "The Big Over Easy" by Jasper Fforde. (Both of these are very, very funny.)

Re: Favorite book?
As you can probably tell I have read a very limited number of books in my life unless comic books count.
I would have to say my favorite real book was Grapes of Wrath followed by Moby-Dick and To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Re: Favorite book?
So many books....
I always dread the "favorite book" question.
How can one possibly answer that without conversation/discussion?
It's one of those things you have a conversation about and remember
all the great books you forgot about as you talk.
My wife always gives me crap because everytime we talk about something
I've read I'll say "that's definitely my favorite!" -yes, she'll reply, that's what
you say about every book you like. It's true though, because then, as I'm
talking about it, I'll remember another one I liked just as much.
Same goes for movies!
With this in mind, To Kill A Mockingbird always comes to mind, I read it
when I was young and it had a huge impact.
...but then again, so did the Lord of the Rings. See how it goes?
More recently I've read a lot of Neil Gaiman.
A couple good foodie books I got through this summer; Heat by Bill Buford
and Anthony Bourdain's new one, The Nasty Bits.
Some more serious fare from Sam Harris, End of Faith and Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion.
I'll remember a million more as this thread progresses, and they'll all be my favorites

Re: Favorite book?
For the sci-fi fans (of course I recommend Dune, cough, but also Foundation and the rest of the series are great - I recently gave my nephew all 4 by Asimov) http://listverse.com/literature/top-15- ... ion-books/
Also, over the winter I read, "Imperial Life in the Emerald City", excellent commentary on life in Baghdad, post invasion. http://www.amazon.com/Imperial-Life-Eme ... 879&sr=8-1

Re: Favorite book?
hmmm,
prior to indenturing myself into public service, I used to read quite a bit.
I started reading Tom Clancy and the like when i was like 13.
Then my brother got me hooked on fantasy novels.
so, my favorite book has to be Faith of The Fallen, by Terry Goodkind.
Tis some good reading right there.

Re: Favorite book?
Top three in no particular order:
-Red Storm Rising - Tom Clancy on a theoretical WWIII scenario that's amazingly comprhensive and in retrospect probably pretty accurate
-The Stand - Stephen King
-Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck

Dave, is that your FAVORITE or just MOST READ???[JiF]DispDave wrote:My most recent favorite book was my Dodge Charger Owner's Manual....

Mine has to be the Sword of Truth (SOT) Series from Goodkind or the LOTR series from Tolkien.
1st Book in the SOT series called Wizard's First Rule was the best.
FYI. Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid. People will believe what they want to believe or fear to believe is true.
