I had RSA thingies at my last two jobs. This looks like the same thing in different packaging.

Not a lot. Have seen them tested in our SQA department, but not played with them myself.[JiF]Beej1024 wrote:already ordered it!

The only issue with secure id is all your computers and network gear need to be set to the same time or the keys / passwords don't work, as long as you don't have any old stuff that doesn't do time sync you should be ok.

I have an NTP device already that syncs with GPS sats, so that should not be a problem. Do you need the code key just when you access remotely or do you need it inside your office? Any idea what the system costs?

Looks like they are offering a free trial, I didn't read the details though.
http://www.rsa.com/node.aspx?id=1156
The way I understand that it works is the device, whether it be a computer or network gear, has to support secureid and have it enabled. Once that is done your only way in is with that token key and your username. So you could set it up for your VPN server so that the only way into your network from outside is though it using your secureid login. As far as price I have no idea, we make products that support it so they gave us some to play with to be sure it works.

The users of my network would be rather upset if they had to carry a little device around with them, and look at it every time they wanted to login. I get the feeling it would frustrate the users more than it would increase security.

Yeah, it's annoying. Some people put in on their keychains. I stuffed mine in my plastic id card holder.[JiF]Mike wrote:The users of my network would be rather upset if they had to carry a little device around with them, and look at it every time they wanted to login. Just as an FYI.... A 100 user appliance with 25 key fobs (yes, 25 come with it, for 100 users...) is about $15,000.00
