Mass Free Fishing Weekend

Post by [JiF][AARP]Grimp »

Darn busy weekend. Graduations, Hot Dog Safari and now FREE fishing. I just can't do it all :D
FREE FISHING DAYS

Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3, are Free Fishing Days in Massachusetts, the only days of the year that residents and non-residents may fish any freshwater streams, rivers, lakes and ponds in the Bay State without a license. All other fishing regulations must be observed. Take advantage of the day to dust off your fishing gear and head for the lake or pond - or if you're already a fishing fanatic, bring your friends or family and get them hooked on the fun!

Free Fishing Days offer a prime opportunity to introduce children and other novices to the sport, especially if you angle for easy-to-catch panfish like sunfish, bluegills or yellow perch. For information on pond maps, boat ramps, stocked waters and other related angling information visit the "Fishing" area in the MassWildlife website at http://www.mass.gov/masswildlife. Fishing festivals and events are found in the "Calendar of Events".

Young people under 15 may fish without a license in Massachusetts year round. For Massachusetts residents ages 15 -18 who want to fish the rest of the year, licenses cost only $11.50 annually. An adult license costs just $27.50. Licenses can be purchased on line at http://www.mass.gov/massoutdoors or at over 400 license agents statewide. Fishing license fees support fisheries research, angler education, fish stocking programs, habitat protection and many other wildlife related services provided by MassWildlife. For fishing rules, seasons and license vendor locations, check the "Fishing" area of the MassWildlife website at http://www.mass.gov/masswildlife.

Yet another thing to do this weekend :!:
This is the very first GREAT GRAFTON GEOCACHE, a town-wide event on Saturday, June 2 to coincide with National Trails Day. We invite expert and amateur geocachers to discover through geocaching the fabulous trail system in our beautiful Blackstone Valley town. The free event is being coordinated by volunteers with the cooperation of the Town of Grafton, The Grafton Land Trust, Tufts University, Grafton Schools, and Brigham Hill Community Barn. Trails will be accessed from 14 parking areas around town. In addition to 10 existing caches there will be 15 new caches that will be posted to the web the next day.

Registration is from 9AM until 1PM in the parking lot of Grafton High School. Basic geocaching seminars for amateurs will be run throughout the day at the Community Barn and we expect to have a limited number of hand-held GPSr units available to borrow or rent.

EXPERIENCED CACHERS: Becasue we expect a high percentage of muggles at this event we would appreciate volunteers willing to take people on their first find. Just let us know beforehand or at registration if you are willing to do this and we'll match you up. THANK YOU!

Please join us for a fun-filled day of exploring the history and trails of Grafton!
