I think it's a very interesting idea. I would miss the old characters somewhat, but I would give it a chance.

I'd be really surprised if they started with a completely new cast, and a little disappointed.
But, like Dandy pointed out, they've a talent for making the cast endearing, yet still disposable. I've always gotten the feeling from the show that anyone could go at anytime, it's one of the best parts of the show...adds an element of realism and tension.
I'm betting they start doing side-stories with one of the current characters as the centerpoint- it's what they're already doing with the graphic novel thing they have on the website. I can't imagine them paying for a whole new cast, hell, half the draw for the show has been actors that have become stars thanks to this show- Ali Larter, Hayden Panettiere, Masi Oka, . et al. ...and of course the amazing guest stars like Malcolm McDowell, George Takei and Eric Roberts.

But who knows, they've done such an incredible job so far, I wouldn't be surprised if whatever they try works out.
...and with the success they've had, I bet they'll have no trouble attracting new big name guest stars/stars.

I think Ali Larter was already somewhat of a star. She was in Legally Blonde and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, among other things.

Yep, all highly acclaimed movies with lots of draw. Not sure how they could have stole her from the movie rolls that must have been rolling in..

My post was somewhat sarcastic. However if you saw her in that skintight latex suit in Jay & Silent Bob, you would have known she was a star in the making.

avatar is in a new movie showing this weekend on the
Sci-Fi channel?

Sorry but anyone who mentions her roles and leaves out her incredible performance-art role as a sunday in Varsity Blues should be shot.

In deferrence to the forum participants I will not be posting pics.

Sure there is. In fact it might be better. Heck the reason people liked this show to begin was was that it kept introducing new characters - or displaying new powers. If they stick with the same cast it'll end up being kinda lame as their powers will get old. I'm still a little pissed off that they killed off the cute redhead waitress (at least let her live for a couple episodes!) but overall I like that characters are disposable.

I bet they do keep some core characters. They may have Peter, Nathan, and his daughter move on but leave the Doctor. I doubt they get rid of the 'bad organization' they've built up. I also have trouble with them dumping Ali Larter's character as it is the one character that is far from developed. Frankly I think they have to kill off Peter and Sylar as those two are just way, way too powerful. At this point my main issue watching the show is that those two seem to not be using their powers nearly enough.

Think more like 24. They kill people off and bring people back (seemingly from the dead) at will.

I saw it Step...was called The Last Sentinel. It stunk up the joint.

Don "the Dragon" Wilson is STILL trying to form an acting career as well as her... ;)

LOL!!
I watched like 5minutes of it, it really did stink badly...even for a made-for-SciFI channel!
Someone must have blackmailed her to make her do that part!!

"Hey....didn't I throw you out a window?"

Good stuff.

I read that they're making another by-line show that will
introduce new characters each week, then people will get
to vote/decide whether they stick around for the next season.

They're also going to make the show more continuous so that
there isn't a big crazy break in the middle of the season again.

Smart people- they're really doing amazing work with this show.

-spoilers included so don't read if you haven't watched this past episode!-

For the most part I liked last nights episode. The kid noting that the hot illusion chick eats like someone who is weighs a ton and her response when she took the form of an older black woman does make you wonder what she really looks like. The 'montage' moment when Hiro and his pops practice swordplay for an hour and that suddenly makes Hiro an accomplished swordsman was laugh-out-loud stupid but since they seem to be working from comic book material the very absurdity of it - along with the blacksmith repairing an ancient samuri sword in a couple hours - almost makes it worth overlooking.

I like the unexpanded storyline forming about the 'old guard' of heroes. It appears that Ma Patrelli, Dad Hiro, and Linderman all have (had?) powers and worked together in the past. Maybe that is what next season will handle. Linderman's healing of Nathan's wife was the first actual display and Hiro's pops may actually not have any abilities and was just involved in the group but it's an interesting subplot.

The mom/dad rescue of their son seemed pretty half-arsed. They finally get Linderman and then just hang around while he gave his Evil Bad Guy Speech. Jessica was absolutely worthless in that sequence. She literally didn't do anything except tag along and the husband, who's powers seem infinitely more valuable anyway, did all the work including taking a gut shot. Interesting way to kill somone. I don't know how that would work if he just makes himself incorporeal then if he had his hand in someone's skull and went solid wouldn't he really, really, really mess up the part of his hand that went solid in his skull?. Still cool.

If I was Ted I think I would have tried to trigger my power when someone began slicing my head open. The 'showdown' by the two class-5 mutan... errr... uber-heroes Peter and Sylar in the next episode has some nice potential. Might be one of the better finales in network TV in a long time.

The amazing part of this show is that even though the writers seem like non-scifi writers writing sci-fi material and being willfully obtuse and only having their characters use supernatural powers when it advances their storyline and not when it makes sense (Why'd the telepath know the one guy was waiting to shoot them but missed the thoughts of Mohinder who was about to hit him over the head with a heavy object?) the show's naivety is easy to overlook and that it's just fun to watch it.

You've hit the nail on the head Sly- while containing necessary cheesiness to maintain the flow, they've managed to keep it interesting and entertaining enough to overlook what becomes distractingly insipid in other tv programming.
It's the typical suspension of disbelief necessity- good shows/movies are the ones that can throw some whacky, hard to believe stuff at you...yet remain entertaining enough for you to overlook them.

Plus, half the fun of these types of shows is ripping them apart afterwards ;)

Yeah. I'm notorious for that at work. I talk about all the loopholes and then people think I'm not enjoying the show. I am but the suspension of disbelief doesn't mean I don't notice what's missing - just that I enjoy what's there. A great example was Hiro who was starting to grind on me (and a lot of other people) so the writers just threw in a Team America Montage sequence and VOILA! Instant samuri and bye-bye Mr. Wussy with a sword and a cool power. I'm fine with them putting in that scene so they can only use up 5 minutes of the show making it significantly better.
