I hate expense reports. I hate them with a passion. My company keeps improving the process to make things 'easier for you' when they really mean improving compliance. I'm getting ready to file one that I know will challenge the limits of our expense reporting system.
To make a long story short, I ended up 3.5 hours away from Atlanta with a flat tire that could not be repaired. National Rental Car was very nice and authorized me to have the tire patched (failed) and then replaced. I was in a Grand Prix and one tire cost $188 so you are talking over $200 installed. No problem, I put it on my corporate card. I get back to Atlanta and the tire cost more than the rental. This caused quite a dilemna at the counter. They made some calls and finally gave me a receipt for the rental at $0.00 dollars and promised to send me a check for the balance of the tire cost. So I've got a receipt for a $200 tire charge and a receipt for a $0.00 car rental. I've got to expense the tire, but only expense it up to the amount for the rental. When I receive the check, I have to pay my corporate card bill. I'm sure my friends at travel expense will not find this acceptable leading to many phone calls and emails. I used to be able to walk down to travel expense, but they are now located in Costa Rica. Perhaps this will get straightened out before I retire.
PS I can't wait to tell my boss.[/i]
