The end of the enoch is actually December 21, 2012 (12-21-2012) which actually is the end the solar system's 5,125 year cycle.

We are currently in a period of eleven years all of which have a day with the last two digits of the year repeated three times in mm/dd/yy form (or dd/mm/yy or yy/mm/dd). So May 5, 2005 was 05/05/05; June 6, 2006 will be 06/06/06; July 7, 2007 will be 07/07/07, etc. So what's going to happen on December 12, 2012?

Actually, a more significant date is December 21, 2012, as this is the end of the Mayan calendar. This will mark the end of the Piscean Age of secular materialism, and the true beginning of the Age of Aquarius, which will last for one thousand years. To be used programatically, dates usually have to be expressed from most significant element to least significant. In other words, yyyymmddhhnnss. So July 6, 2008 at 5:04:03 am will be 20080706050403. Best I can do - you can't remove the "20" from the beginning lest we have Y2K all over again.

I've been following the Dec 12th one for awhile. Not sure if this is true, Mike.
The planetary alignment on this date is supposed to happen once every 10,500 years.
This is the cycle where the Myans are interpreted of saying that this is when the world's cycle ends and a cleansing occurs.
Native Indians have this in their systems as well.
Geology has actually shown some pretty wierd stuff in the earth's layers around this timing.

It's actually pretty spooky.

There was a cool scifi book that I read that felt that solar flares occured on this frequency and that's the cause (actually some evidence to support).

Long story short - just make sure you have some SPF 250 sunblock on that day....

winter soltice is 12/21/20012 11:11am ... this is the end of the sun solar activity cycle. I just read that they are predicting a "moderate" to moderate heavy solar flare cycle about mid 2012. the group is unable to agree on 90 flares or 140 flares. also in January 2012, one of the closest NEOs will pass earth. The worry is a corena mass eruption at a point where our magnetic field is weakest or some predicting a point of reversal. I think I'm buying some stock in Ensure and toilet paper.. maybe not TP.

433 Eros, second largest NEO ever recorded, will pass our orbit estimated at 0.17 AU but surprisingly there are no plans to rendezvous with this object like we have with other object less close. there was a scare of impact in 2001 but NASA's NEO project software was "adjusted" using new data they had. I'm not a real conspiracy buff... but there are some interesting coincidences if you start reading the news.
