Another Surgery
Well guys,
I lived thru another surgery this morning.
For those of you who have had hernia surgery (ie Albie, etc - inguinal, especially), I can now officially say that 'I feel your pain'.
Being close to the groin, was a little too close for comfort, and the after pain (ie demerol wearing off) is worse than the gall bladder.
Glad my percocets are only $3 for a bottle of 30!!!
Well ,need to go lay down again cuz this real suxs!!!!

Here's a concrete piece of advice I can offer you (hopefully you'll read this before bed tonight). The combination of demerol and the local anesthetic they gave me during the procedure kept me feeling ok from when I went home to bedtime. But the next morning, I was in pain. I took a demerol as soon as I woke up, but it took a little while to kick in. Meantime, I could not sit up and get out of bed. I was stuck in bed. But I had an urgent problem in the form of my bladder. Long story short - we never used that squeeze bottle again.
So my advice - try to take a demerol in the middle of the night, and sleep in a bed that is low to the ground. Our bed is pretty high up. The next few nights I slept in our guest bed which is much lower, and it was a lot easier to get up from it.

Been there... I feel for you. When I initially went to meet the surgeon, he started to describe the surgery in detail and my father was with me. I was listening intently to the doc, when I saw panic overcome his face as he looked over my shoulder. I turmed around to see my father passing out. He slumped forward out of his chair and hit his head against a table and sprawled out unconscious as he emptied his bladder on the floor. I am glad I did not inherit that squimish gene.

As Albie said, don't wait for the pain to build up before taking your narcotics. Stick to a dose every 4 hours for the first 4 days and then let it ride and see how it goes.
Did they cut you to go and sew the tear or did they use endoscopy with just 3 little holes ? The later is what I endured 7 years ago, less painful than the opening.
And to make you feel better, I got out of surgery 4 weeks ago for a pleurectomy and bullectomy (googgle them up) on my left lung, due to repetitive pneumothrax. The kind surgeon said the pain shouuld subside in the next 3 to 4 months and the sensibility should be gone within 2 years !
So hang in there and play BF, it'll change your mind.

I know what your going thru, I had a hernia and vasectomy in 2000 but mine was done endoscoply. I didn't have much pain with mine but I had the pain with my back surgery in 02 and I will get to feel that pain again this summer when I have my neck surgery.
Hang in there and take the meds and everything will get better.

Thanks guys for all the advice and kind comments...
Yeah - today has been real painful. Worst part is that it is hurting real bad in the area guys hate worst.
Thought they were joking about my little buddy - now I know they werent!!
And yes, religiously taking percocets every 3 hours. They didnt give me anymore demerol...wahhh!!!
Cant tell right now with the big patch on my stomach exactly how they went in. He said he was goin to use the same holes from the laproscopy, but the "side ones" I can see and he didnt use them. Think he might have just went through the one in the navel.
Just glad the computer is right next to the couch so that I dont have to crawl very far out of my fetal position!!!
Well - gotta go change me ice pack!!
Tanxs again guys.

ps. Step, I can guarantee u there WONT be any perc's left when I'm done!!

Just took off the outer bandage. Looks like he drilled two MORE holes in me, plus using the one in my belly button.Sir Die-a-lot wrote:As Albie said, don't wait for the pain to build up before taking your narcotics.
