Movie database

Does anyone know of an movie database that you can either download and use locally on your computer or send a URL and get back an xml page with the movie info -- sort of like an rss feed?

I know imdb has a version you can download, but they charge like 15K to do it.

I plan on ripping the kids tapes and DVDs to hard drive and make it so they can click to play. then I can share the drive and play from any computer in the house... in theory
