ASP.NET Account found...

Post by [JiF]KellysHero »

Was looking at my accounts on my system, and found this ASP.net account next to mine. I'm the only one (at least I assume) that uses it, am I hacked?

Its an account to run asp.net stuff with no privileges, so it can't run with admin access.
I believe its only needed if you do asp.net development, but its not hurting anything for it to be there.

Weird thing is, I didn't put it there, although when I was messing around with remote desktop manager I did do a lot of updates to Windows and recall adding some .net stuff to it. Maybe they did it!

ASPNET is the account which the aspnet worker process (aspnet_wp.exe) will use to do the server-side processing for asp.net pages under IIS. If you're not running a web server and thus not using IIS, it will never get used. If your machine does serve asp.net pages, then you need it. It is standard though, so its presence is not a sign of being hacked.
