The things a monster! Im sure between all of us we can muster up some kind of system for you to rent, I'll keep a look out for rental pc's

I'm more intrigued by the renting option, cause that would mean I could fly up. Flying is quick and cheap. I'll have to look into that.

I live in Indiana but if the Cincy crew are going to carpool with me then we will be coming from Cincy, if not then I'll be leaving home which is 75 miles west of Indianapolis.

I just did a quick lookup on Google Maps. Cincinnati to Boston is 877 mi (about 13 hours 50 mins). Cincinnati to Baltimore to Boston is 925 mi (about 15 hours 18 mins). So it's not much out of the way. I could definitely be interested in joining the JiF caravan if the rental thing doesn't work out!

It's interesting that it comes out so close, cause the two trips follow completely different routes. The Cincinnati direct to Boston route has you go north to Cleveland and Buffalo, and then east on I-90 across upstate New York. The Baltimore route heads east to Columbus and Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and then north up I-95 and the NJ Turnpike etc.

I've done both those routes, for different reasons, but I will tell you that TIME OF DAY is much more a factor on the "let's get Albie" route!

Use caution when planning that leg as it could easily be an hour or two longer with traffic.

Just leave at like 11 at night then there will be no traffic, clear sailing you can wave to the truck drivers as you fly by them going up the hills, and then wave again when they fly by you going down them

, I love going on trips west its a grand time.

Alas, I am an old man. Not AARP-old, but old nonetheless. If I leave at 11pm, then you will see a story in the news the next day about a driver who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car off the side of the road.

When going on a trip I guess Google maps and Yahoo maps is ok but the only time I use them is when it comes down to finding an address in a city I have never been to. Mostly when I go on a long trip I turn into one of those coffee drinking drive for 3 days with out sleep truck driver and usually get there with no probs. Another thing to remember about Google maps and Yahoo maps is they base the speed off of Schnider trucking so its all figured at 60mph. Up untill a few years ago it was based at 55mph. I''m not sure what highway speeds out there are but thats what I figure my driving time off of.

Also when I take off my bird dog is on the dash and he will tell me when I need to slow down. To drive the 877 miles from Cicny to Boston would take me around 11 hours give or take a little time for traffic and to throw Baltimore in there they add another 1 hour 30 min for an xtra 50 or so miles but thats only another 45 min of drive time. The Cincy to Baltimore to Boston would take around 13 hours 30 min give or take a little for traffic. Google and Yahoo both say its almost 4 hours from my house to my moms down by Cincy and a couple of weekends ago I took my and went down there to get her away after her grandmas funeral and it took us 2 hours 45 min to get there. The Indiana speed limit is 70mph which lets us run 75mph with out worry of getting a ticket but my with my bird dog I usually run at around 80 - 85mph.

I had set down and looked things over the other night in my atlas and figured that if the carpool wanted to we could leave at like 12 noon or a little after and drive so far then spend the night and drive the last few hours there the next morning and that way we would all be refreshed and ready to have fun and none of us would run down from driving all night or anything. It starts at 9am and we could make it to within about an hours drive from there before we spent the night then start out at around 6:30 or 7am the next morning and be there by around 8am or so or we could leave earlier. This is all just some ideas being thrown out there.

Lonewolf.. if you travel at 60MPH, northeast of Penn, you're going to get a lot of bad looks, people flipping you the bird, honking, etc. 75 in a 65 is perfectly acceptable in the northeast, if you're going 65 or slower, you'll be the slow guy backing up traffic.

I wont be running 60mph because if I did my Explorer would think something was wrong. I normally run anywhere from 10 - 15mph more then what the posted speed is. The 60mph is what all of the map programs are set to figure your travel time at as Schnider trucking is the ones that the map programs came from. They figure your travel time at 60mph for interstate highways and 50mph for state highways, thats why I always figure my travel time myself.

If you are going through NY state and PENN I would be very careful about pushing it too far. They use to be notorious for grabbing out of state cars in excess of 5 miles over the limit and especially in construction zones where the fines are doubled. Use to be if you didn't have the cash to pay you were in for a very unfun time.

throw all driving rules out once you enter Mass... I try to have an open mind about the generalization of massachuttess drivers but then one passes me in the slow lane and cuts me off in the passing lane and slows down! it's frekin mind baffling and don't get me started with the highway exit circle-jerks...
To get to Mass is easy: head East and follow the dunkin donuts until they're every 200 ft...

Also, you could probably easily cut an hour or so from your trip time easily with EZ-Pass, Fast Lane, or a similar electronic toll payment system.
