Troubles with the site

Post by [JiF]Beezer »

When attempting to use the site on my home PC i get a.... Page can't be found message, and yet at school it works fine. Wondering if anyone had any idea as to why this was happening, could it be my FireFox version???? Thanks

I need some help, I have done everything I could try to do to make the site work at home. I upgraded firefox to 2.0.0.2. and disabled my firewall in desperate attempts to get on the site. So far no luck and I have no clue where to go from here. I have tried accessing it on 3 different computers at my house and have gotten no luck. Any other suggestions on what to do or whats going wrong???

3 different PCs in the same house would almost have to indicate your router. Parental controls on the router?

Nope, the router is in my room so Im pretty much the master and commander of it. The site used to work until about a week or so ago. Im not sure if theres anything I can do in internet settings or anything to allow jiff.net to be accessed. When I access it on FireFox it comes up an empty page and on IE it comes up as not being available.

Can you PM or email your IP address to me when you get home? I have been blocking IP's from over seas and may have fat fingered one that effects you. If you can give me the IP I can check my list and if your range is in there I can remove it. I will send you and email from an account not on the jiff.net server so I can get it in case I am blocking your IP.

Thanks

About a week ago I had trouble with Charter's DNS finding JiFF.net. I removed the power from the cable modem, shut off my router. Brought the cable modem back up and then turned on my router. The problem went away. Not sure exactly what caused it.

Riot, can you ping it? Bring up a command window (Start-Run-"cmd"), and type "ping http://www.jiff.net". Sorry if this is condescending - not sure if you know this kind of stuff or not. :)

I dont know what in the world happened, but it appears that I witnessed a miracle this fine afternoon. I went (just for kicks) to try and get on, and me and Bezzer were sitting here patiently and OUT OF THE DARKNESS OF THE LOADING SCREEN appeared the JiF homepage! I dont know how this happened, but i hope it lasts!!!

It appears the luck was short lived, once again I am unable to access the JiF site at home, there is no sense to this madness!

Open up a command prompt by going to start run and typing in cmd and hit enter.
When the window comes up type in nslookup http://www.jiff.net and hit enter.

In the responce you should get

Name: jiff.net
Address: 208.131.136.118
Aliases: http://www.jiff.net

If you don't see 208.131.136.118
If it fails or you get a different IP address then you probably have a DNS issue with Charter or the DNS on your router.

That seems to happen once or twice during the day, I keep it logged on at work
so I get to see a bit of a trend.
