an issue I ould like to figure out...

Post by [JiF]Crash »

Hey...

For about 9 months now, when I boot I get the following error.

"Warning. The boot devices have changed. BBS boot priority will be affected. Please enter setup to check."

I can either F1 to ignore, or go into setup and fix. Most of the time I just F1, sometimes I go in to see what could have changed, which is usually nothing.

The thing is, is that I never changed the boot order. And even when I do I F10 to save. I get this error about 80% of the time when booting every day. Some times it just boots normally.

I have changed the bios battery.
Flashed the bios.

I don't know how to get rid of the error.

Again I can F1 and boot right in, but want to figure out why it "thinks there is a new boot order"

The only time I have seen that error was on a system that had a component that was slowly dieing. In one case it was the CD-Rom which was burning out (it was actually hot enough to burn my finger tips when I touched it) and screwing up the boot order. Because the CD-Rom was dieing it was not always being recognized on boot up - thus the change in boot order.

wow...

That might be true. My rarely used DVD burner thats on the slave cdrom cable sometime does not show up on boot up. But if thats the case and I rarely used this drive, why would it be that flaky during boot seek for drives?

After a few more replies, I'll yank the drive for a while and see if the errors stop. If they do, what could be causing the motherboard to be pissy with the rarely used drive??

Thanks

Crash,

that's exactly what just happened to me a couple months ago.

one of my drives failed. since they were linked in series, wasn't sure which it was (if not both).

game me a reason to upgrade both of them...heehee... fixed all those errors.
