More Router issues

Post by [JiF]Crash »

OK... So I ditch the old wired router for this new Linksys wrt54g ver 6. I patched the firmware so I have the current.

I never had this issue with my wired router. When ever I'm gaming I lag a bit ingame, but the wifes computer lags like crazy just surfin. I'm running all defaults on the router. I dont have a cloned MAC addy as comcast says I don't need it.

I don't know what to try next. I'd hate to think I would need port forwarding to get both PC's to be full throttle while gaming.

Suggestions? I about to put the old router back in place... :x

was it working ok before you patched it? If it was I would see if you can go back a release. If not and you still have your old one you could put it in to see if the problem is still there or if your current router has wired ports see if plugging in directly works. I don't know how close your neighbors are but I used to get interference from cordless phones at my old place and that could cause all kinds of problems for me. Can't think of anything else right now, hope everything works out for you.

oh and I was able to make the interference less by using the high port numbers on the router. I mean channel number not port.

Hello,

This hasen't worked well since coming out of the box. At this point wifi is not even in place until this is fixed.

I did a ping -t http://www.jiff.net on the wifes PC. It clocks 62ms and no dropped packets UNTIL I connect to the JiF gaming server on my wired PC. THen we both start laggin like crazy.

I'm going to switch back to the wired router and see if I get the same results

This is router number 2 with this problem and when you bypass the router everything runs fine. Correct? Have you checked the simple things, you know Patch Cables ... etc?

When you're connected to the gaming server, you're not maxing out your outgoing bandwidth are you?

I know when I was not throttling my upload speed on things (torrent, sftp, etc.) and I saturated my uplink speed, everything slowed to a crawl.

Yo Op....

What should I be looking for here. I'm using defaults. I didn't know I would need to do so much fussing with this thing to do simple things
