I'm now reading Chris Bellamy's excellent book on the Eastern Front in World War II, Absolute War, and he mentions that aerosani - armored sleds on skis powered by an aircraft engine with propellor in the back - fought the Germans on frozen Lake Ladoga during the siege of Leningrad.
Imagine tooling around in one of these in World of Tanks. Or better yet, tooling around a frozen lake in Wisconsin, scaring the crap out of the ice fishermen.

Hmmmm. Anyone who thinks sitting around a hole in the ice at -25 waiting for a little flag to wave is either too crazy or too drunk to scare.[JiF]Uncle Stinky wrote:... Or better yet, tooling around a frozen lake in Wisconsin, scaring the crap out of the ice fishermen.

OK, so you could use it to conquer all the fishing holes on the lake!
But as someone mentioned, where are the brakes? Is it done Fred Flintstones-style.

I think I ran into this "things" in a BF1942-mod (Forgotten Hope maybe). They were fast and fun to drive.[JiF]Uncle Stinky wrote:I'm now reading Chris Bellamy's excellent book on the Eastern Front in World War II, Absolute War, and he mentions that aerosani - armored sleds on skis powered by an aircraft engine with propellor in the back - fought the Germans on frozen Lake Ladoga during the siege of Leningrad.

Rix is right. Forgotten Hope had these on one of their maps. They were fun to drive and could get you across the map pretty fast, but the MG was more decorative than practical. They bounced around a bit and if you stopped to fire you were tank bait.
