Funny story...finished lunch with some coworkers at the local BK when we noticed a Google Street View car in the parking lot. A coworker decides he's going to snap a photo of the car and pulls out his phone/camera. Well the driver happens to come out and asks us not to photograph the car and also informs us we aren't allowed to do it either. He even said it was the same thing as someone asking you not to come on to their property. WTF? So I ask, what happens if I do? His reply is he'll call the police! If I hadn't been with coworkers and didn't have to go back to work, I'd have not only taken a photo, but video as well!
Now the irony, he's in a public area, driving a car around with 9 cameras mounted on the roof taking photos to upload to the internet!

Had a run in with a Google Maps Street View Driver
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

I would have been a shutterbug and started taking pics of him them post them to Webster's online Dick-tionary under the definition for A-Hole.
Never heard of it being illegal to take pictures, who the hell does he think he is? Sounds like a lawyer wannabe...

A great printable explanation of photographers rights is here. Google should train their drivers better, he can ask you not to take a photo, but he has no right to stop you. You should email them about the incident, see what they have to say.

I really wanted to take some pics, with my google powered phone no less! One of my coworkers suggested we should have all taken our phones out, snapped a picture and ran in 4 different directions!
Thanks for the link, I was curious about photographers rights and such. I did read a story about another google driver in the UK asking someone not to take his picture. He did let them take all sorts of pictures of the car, even explained how a lot of the stuff worked. The driver in this story was more of a contractor for google and not an employee of google though. He showed up for a "driving job" and found out he'd be driving the google maps street view car.

Why did he not want his picture taken? I don't understand the issue from his point.

Maybe he wasn't spose to be where he was
Last year I was out mowing my lawn and they went by. I was all excited to showing up on Street View riding my tractor, but it hasn't changed
