HalfLife-related news..

Post by [JiF]Timmay! »

Looks like 3 new HL2:EP2 videos from Valve today..

They're named:
  • HL2:EP2 Gameplay Demo 3 (Sep 6, 2006)
  • HL2:EP2 Gameplay Video 2 (Sep 6, 2006)
  • HL2:EP2 Gameplay Video 1 (Sep 6, 2006)
Still downloading so I don't know if the naming difference (gameplay "demo" vs gameplay "video") is on purpose or just a typo. I suspect it's a typo. The youtube versions are probably coming soon, if you don't have Steam or just don't want to get them that way (even though the quality is FAR better).

edit: I've seen these videos before.. Not sure where - they're not in my steam media thingy - but I know I've seen them.

Some various EP2/Portal/HL2 tidbits in a new, 15 minute video at GameVideos.com, which will be written up in the next CGW. Downloading the video (links to the right of the player) gets a much higher resolution.

Game footage is stuff we've seen before but it's also got interviews with developers of the various games. Didn't notice anything new on EP2. One of the Portal devs (an actual Female dev.. Wow.. Kinda cute, too) seems to slip and say that the main character will be a woman. For TF2, they say that when the game ships, it will not be the end of development - talk of new classes (but not what they will be).

HL2 EP2
I think thats a fixed estimate. I think they just put it there so they can be like "by the end of the year."

Steam wrote:We're now in the home stretch on getting everything finished off with the Orange Box games. Just this week, we've finished recording and placing all of the developer commentary for the three new games. Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal together will include over two and a half hours of new commentary that should help shed some light into the thinking and challenges behind these three new games. This is all in addition to the hour or so of commentary included in Episode One. Commentary will be included on all three platforms (PC, XBOX 360, and PS3). Here's Merle Dandridge, the voice of Alyx, talking about Alyx.
Hm.. Are they messing with us or is TF2 really gonna happen??

Shacknews wrote:Valve Confirms Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 Launch Date
by Chris Remo Jun 15, 2007 12:16am CST
Last night, Valve representatives confirmed to Shacknews that the studio's upcoming trio of Source-powered games will ship for all announced platforms on October 9, 2007. The suite, sold at retail and through Valve's Steam download service, will consist of the shooter sequel Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the team-based multiplayer game Team Fortress 2, and the action/puzzle game Portal. Valve is handling development of the games on PC and Xbox 360, with EA UK's Chertsey, Surrey office bringing the titles to PlayStation 3.
Shacknews has had extensive hands-on time with all three upcoming games. Check out our Half-Life 2: Episode Two preview and our Portal preview, and check back next week for impressions of Team Fortress 2.

Today's news follows rumors originating last month that the PlayStation 3 versions of the games would be delayed into 2008. Valve's Doug Lombardi noted to Shacknews that development has been progressing well on all three platforms.

Electronic Arts is distributing the games at retail as a package entitled Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, which also includes the original Half-Life 2 and last year's Half-Life 2: Episode One. It will sell for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Previously, the company intended to sell a slimmer package, The Black Box, which would not include Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One, but those plans were cancelled last month. It is expected that Steam customers will retain the option to purchase only the newly-released games.

Check out the new TFC2 video. This time it's Meet The Soldier.
Meet the Soldier, one of nine playable character classes in Team Fortress 2:

Name: Soldier
Role: Offense
Weapons: Rocket Launcher / Shotgun / Shovel
Favorite World War: 2
Special Ability: Rocket Jump

Though he wanted desperately to fight in World War 2, the Soldier was rejected from every branch of the U.S. military. Undaunted, he bought his own ticket to Europe. After arriving and finally locating Poland, the Soldier taught himself how to load and fire a variety of weapons before embarking on a Nazi killing spree for which he was awarded several medals that he designed and made himself. His rampage ended immediately upon hearing about the end of the war in 1949.
