a little help

Post by [JiF]phantomx »

Ok, so I got the BF1942 CD's in the mail. installed and run it. First thing I notice is that when I go to the internet browse, I do not see any listed servers. I do not know if this is normal or not. I try to connect directly to the JiF server and I get a CD Key error. Now I have patched my version as per the instructions I have found here. I am not trying to connect to the JiF server while EoD or BG is running (when I try to go to those I get a bad map message).
I have retried to put in the key again, even got my self a keygen (don't say it....I know....) and still no joy. should I be seeing servers when I go to browse the internet? here is what I have done so far and in this order....

Installed BF1942 and all the xp (secret weapons and road to rome)
ran the the first patch (can't rememeber the version)
ran the next patch (1.61b)
ran PB

am I missing something to be able to connect to the generic 1942 maps? Is my key really invalid? I notice that it has to run with my CD in the drive (personally always hated that type of DRM), is this normal?

thanks

If you are running it on Win 7 , then you must run bf1942.exe in xp sp 2 compatability mode, you must also set the program to run as administrator.
From what you have said it looks like you have installed the correct patches.

Not sure what's going on with the server browser not displaying, but as far as the CD key goes we had a bit of trouble with that a few years ago. Turns out EA printed a bunch of the codes for Secret Weapons and R2R incorrectly. A phone call with support ended up getting new correct keys emailed.

Check the JiF server and wait for a vanilla 42 map to appear and try to connect to that. If you can, then your R2R and SW keys are likely invalid and that's why the error is being thrown. It happened to a couple guys in the office here so it may be the case.

ok, did the admin and XP compatibility thing, still no go. As for the browser, this appears to be working now. Not sure if it is the admin/XP that is making it work or my pressing the update button in the browser (issue being between the keyboard and the mouse). Now when I try to connect to one of the remaining public servers I still get the invalid CD key error...

Might not have anything to do with your issue but you should read this thread about how to set up punkbuster since it was discontinued for BF42.
