Re: A new twist
This is one of my all time favourites from one of my all time favourite groups.
I've been to many of their gigs & joined in with this one.
It's still a favourite disco number at our company dinners, someone always asks for it.
This group met in a line at the local dole office where they were all signing on as unemployed, the form required was called a UB40.
The first album was called Signing Off & had a copy of the UB40 as the cover.

This one is too obvious:

But if the truth be known - when I was in my final year we used to frequent the sorriest excuse for a pub in town. Fire code limited the capacity to about 50 (unless magically protected from fire by beer) at which point at least double the number were allowed. At the end of the night you were expected to sing ‘Barretts Privateers’ or be forever barred from ever returning. Strange how the threat of being banned from the dirtiest hole in town insured you'd do anything to return. Each table would fight for the right to sing. The owner didn’t know much about décor or hygiene but he knew human nature. Of course the owner would have to judge you ‘drunk enough’ to inspire the clientele. Your friends would also need to be similarly tipsy since they would be singing the chorus. Oddly enough he would almost always require that you 'buy one more round' – just to lubricate the pipes. Then, without concern for key or melody we would sing…
