go SLI w/ an upgrade or not?
So I have an ASUS GeForce 6800GT/2DT/256MB/GDDR3/256bit/PCIE16/SLI which runs a little hot but so does everything in my case which is why the upgrade. Should I go with buying another card and go SLI or not? Newegg has the cards in open box for $139 which is $100 less than I bought it for a year ago.
Some other things I need are cooling for the processor (thinking about replacing process too), adding another gig of RAM, and possibly a tuner card. Here's my specs: Please comment and or help... all suggestions will be considered and appropriately responded to or filed for future use.
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.0Ghz socket939
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
ASUS dual layer DVDRW
200 GB Maxtor Serial HHD
1 GB G.Skill PC3200
ASUS EN6800GT
zBoard, wireless 7 button mouse, 19" LCD.
I'm getting some new massive heatsink fans, another gig memory, maybe a tv tuner card... suggestions; another 6800gt?

If its $139 then I'd definately go for it. Im debating the same but my card goes for like $300. I think I might need a new processor as well because when I minimize and maximize BF2142 again, it tends to freeze the game. I have a AMD 4000+ and was planning on getting a X2 5200+ sometime before the LAN...should a 4000+ be able to handle the minimizeing and maximizing of a game like that?

What a coincidence BigJ, I just bought that open box card yesterday!
Finally replacing my old ATI 9800 pro...
figured I'd get ready for the LAN.
Speaking of which, why aren't you going!?!?

They have differing benchmarks and you can pick out an 6800GT in SLI mode and compare it to other video cards you maybe interested in. A few months ago I picked up a BFG 7600 GT w/256 megs of ram for 140 (forgot to send in the rebate to get another $30 off ) and it outpaces a pair of 6800's running in SLI. Plus the 7600 is going for $99 with a bigger rebate.

Actually it's $89 with the rebate.

You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

I'm not sure if those charts actually show the cards in SLI mode or as a single card.
Edit,
The more I looked at them, I don't think they are in SLI mode.

I guess I could return it and get the 7600...
is it worth it?
If you can return it, I'd go for the upgraded card. Even if there is a restocking fee, you'll probably still come out ahead. Plus nVidia has already come out with the 8000 series of cards and you are buying a 6000 series for more than a 7000 series. Don't you know you should clear all purchases through the JiF Tech forums before you buy!?!?!
Here's a list that Tom's Hardware compiled broken down by price segements. They have the 7600 GS best for under $100, but new egg has the 7600 GT for $90 already. Just don't forget to do the rebate part of it!!!
