To advance as a sniper you don't always have to use the sniper rifle. Choose another machine gun weapon (I have the PP-19 unlocked) and the metro map. Drop the targeting sensor (T-UGS?) near the heavy combat zone and you'll get points for spots as well. You won't get rifle kills to unlock other, but you'll build the overall score.[JiF]phantomx wrote:I personally like the engineer and assault class. Mostly for the javelin and m320 unlocks (although the defib is nice). I am trying to advance the recon so that I can unlock the soflam but having a hard time with this as I am a horrible shot and the sniper is not my best class...
I find the engineer kind of the best all round class as long as there is someone on your team that has a soflam and can work it. The engineer can take on infantry, tanks and air vehicles.

You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Re: Back in the Saddle Again
Ya I haven't been using the sniper rifles, but find the recon lacking as to me it is infantry only. Mind you I did not think of that Metro idea. Will pop on tonight to a 64 slot metro site and see if I can boost my rank....good idea.
guess that goes for all classes and ranking up. I like playing the game as it is, I don't care to much for my KDR (although I do get a little giddy when my Kills are higher then my deaths) but I like the objective work and working with team mates (taking out tanks, and such). But this tactic does not allow me to advance much (hell I have had the game since release and Im only a sargent), so I have dropped into a few TDM 64 slot matches to help advance. And the metro is great for this (although I personally hate this map for anything else). It is pure mayhem. you will get TK'ed and will TK others but its pure fun. These are great maps for unlocking the support/assault. Just keep dropping ammo/health and revives at the choke points.

If you teamkill Grimp you can revive him and get credit. Not that I ever did that or anything.....

"Roads?! Where we're going, we don't need roads!"
I don't like to take the roads all the time. They are covered with mines if Gav is around and lerking engineers are just waiting for you. Okay maybe it's just a lot of fun seeing how much the little buggy can take, how much height I can get and what I can climb with it. The Wake map kind of lends itself to buggy racing as seen in previous BF games.
I will admit you stayed in the buggy with me longer than most will
Sometimes I wish they would not tell you who Teamkilled you so I could just slink away

At my age I prefer to ride. I did bail out that one time you did the nose dive off a cliff, but hopped back in when it was evident you and the vehicle survived.[JiF][AARP]Grimp wrote:I will admit you stayed in the buggy with me longer than most will

It's pretty much the same game. Just more toys and visual goodies which make it a bit more fun IMO.

Re: Back in the Saddle Again
It is the first game since BF42 that has excited me this much. The squad concept is well excuted and adds to the gameplay. The number of weapons you can try is almost overwhelming. I'm still learning what can be done with the stuff I have, but it is as much fun as I had playing BF42 with JiF'ers.
I really like the destructible part of the game as it changes the gameplay as buildings and trees are destroyed. Of course, it makes hiding in a building not as much fun.

Re: Back in the Saddle Again
I agree Tissue, especially when someone copies my tactic of blowing holes in the buildings just in case someone is hiding in them, a bit of long range shelling has often scored me a bounty of kills.
I have also found that playing TDM is a good way to get used to the capabilities of the weapons and can dramatically improve squad play if you can get some regular game time with people

Re: Back in the Saddle Again
Well I did my first "clear out someone shooting at me from a second story window with an rpg (or maybe a SMAW)" last night. They picked off Jimbo as we entered a flag area and I noticed the gun flash. I didn't pay too much attention, but I got kill points and points for some sort of squad kill thingy. I must admit I was surprised at how much of the building corner was knocked off. It was fun last night. On the metro map I was support and learned how much fun it is to lay down suppressive fire with a light mg. See something moving and just lay down a full belt of ammo and maybe get a kill or two if lucky before someone SMAW's or grenades you. Lots of noise anyway so it is fun. Also got to watch Jimbo make a lot of noise with what I assume is the DAO. I haven't tried it yet.
