BF3 Server and DLC

With the Back To Karkand DLC being released next week, I am wondering what we should do with the current map rotation. Should we add the new maps in (knowing that people with out the DLC will not be able to play and will get kicked probably during map change), stick to the current rotation or move to Karkand 100 %. Do most of us JiF'ers have the DLC?

If we put in the DLC maps we could see what the response is and determine from there, but I do not want to exclude any JiF from playing if they do not have the DLC.

I would suggest that it could be 100% karkland for 2-3 days and then put in full rotation (vanilla + karkand) after that. I'm sure pretty much everyone will have it once it's released. A huge majority will have it with their Limited Edition and those who didn't get the pre-release will be almost guaranteed to get it.

I would think you'd get loads wanting to just play the new maps for their 1st few days as Cowhide says, but I do agree too that it would be bad if some haven't got the expansion pack. However it would be nice to get some more maps into the regular rotation as it feels a bit limited at the minute.
So those that haven't got it through VIP pre-order route go out & order it up! So there :hah:

agreed, I think all pc jiffers orderd the ltd ed so on with the Karkland maps! if they don't then +1 to what gav said, go get it lol.

server update r12 is being released on Tuesday. this will has a few small bug fixes but mostly allows for The new B2K maps. From the consensus on this topic Think I will make the server a full B2K map rotation (including the new conquest assault mode) instead of mixed in with the regular maps. We could run it this way for a week and readjustment after.

I WANT NEW MAPS! If I don't get what I want I am going to lay down on the floor, kick and scream until I get what I want.
Well maybe not. Seems once I get down on the floor it's getting really hard to get back up and I would probably just take a nap. Maybe instead I will just have angry selfish thoughts about the new maps if I don't get them :)

# B2K Maps
#Strike at Karkand Conquest - 2 rounds
#Wake Island Rush - 2 rounds
#Gulf of Oman Conquest - 2 rounds
#Sharqi Peninsula Rush - 2 rounds
#Sharqi Peninsula Conquest Assualt - 2 rounds
#Gulf of Oman Rush - 2 rounds
#Wake Island Conquest - 2 rounds
#Strike at Karkand Rush - 2 rounds

I will alter/add more conquest assualt as I figure out what it exactly is (note Wake Island does not support Conquest Assault.

Can I suggest more of a break up of maps?, Sharqi and Strike end up next to each other. With the same map next to each other alternating rounds and modes that ends up being around 2 hrs or more of the same map. If you prefer it that way or if there's a technical reason no probs but it would break it up a bit more. For the people that only go on for a couple of hrs a night it could end up being pretty much one map for the whole night.

Example:

#Strike at Karkand Conquest - 2 rounds
#Wake Island Rush - 2 rounds
#Gulf of Oman Conquest - 2 rounds
#Sharqi Peninsula Rush - 2 rounds
#Strike at Karkand Rush - 2 rounds
#Wake Island Conquest - 2 rounds
#Gulf of Oman Rush - 2 rounds
#Sharqi Peninsula Conquest Assualt - 2 rounds

I unfortunately have never played any of these maps in previous BF games, you make a good point on the rotation suggestions. I do like alternating between rush and conquest (this is how it is now). I arbitrarily went down the list of available maps in order (ascending for conquest and descending for rush). I have no problem implementing your suggestions. I will take other suggestions and implement the main consensus on tuesday.

From playing these maps I would say that Karkand and Sharqi Peninsula are more Urban fighting and the most similar. Gulf of Oman is somewhat urban but broken up by a more desert like scene and Wake is the more drastic change of the three. I don't think the 3 maps have a strong enough difference that they really need to be broken up that much, you could put Oman inbetween Karkand and Sharqi to break it up a bit if you like and Wake will be a change no matter where it is in contrast of the other three.

after tonights match, I will definitely change the my original suggested map rotation to that of the suggestions. Also going to reduce to 1 round and standard ticket count.

going to play with the current rotation a bit too as we seem to be playing it too much...

That's great Phantom. Thanks very much for listening to your customers feedback. :D
I think it was a case of trying the original rotation to see how it worked. It was of course great when it was shiny & new out of the box, but as it is the same small group who kick the games off at night we were only playing the same few maps over each night. Of course this does help you become very proficient at them as you find all the good spots, however to keep up the enjoyment it's nice to try the others & the switch from rush to conquest & vice versa will also help.

I really like the idea of switching maps each round. Redoing some of those maps right away got to be tedious.

Too bad we can't find a way to unlock the AA vehicles in our rotation. I understand they are available only on 64-player maps.
