Port to open for BF3

Turning off UPnP on your router may solved your disconnects. Go to your router, Type in the standard Router IP address in your browser EG. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 (BT HOME HUB IP)). This is pretty standard for all routers, its your "home" for the routure, so to speak. Should be somewhere in settings or advanced settings. Turn it off.

I can't find the original link t from dice that provided these ports, but I have a huge security issue with what DICE is asking....just from your screen shots you basically bybassing your whole firewall and exposing your machine to the wild west internet. This could be fine but I can't beleive DICE/EA needs these ports open to operate a game properly...

Just of the top of my head opening the following ports in your firewall exposes the following...

80 -> web server port. If you are running a personal webserver, the world now has access to it if they know your IP. Also if you do not secure or patch your webserver you are now exposed to vulnerabilities

443 -> this is a SSL port for email. Why does EA need this one open?

all the other ones are outside of the reserved ports range and could mean anything...

Gib the way you opened your ports though from 80 -> 443 means that every port between those port numbers is now open...FYI this is now what is exposed to your computer...

the other thing I noticed on your router setup (unsure if you did this on purpose) is that you are port forwarding these ports back you your router (assuming .1 is your router IP).

this is just my two cents

What does all that mean from a security stand point? They are open, but what does that open you up to having done to you?
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

basically means if someone has your public IP address they could "potentially" gain access to your computer. Personally if I port forwarded port 80 you would have access to my personal web server. I use this for web page development and personal use. I do not want people to have access to this.

It is not a major issue, I just find it hard to believe that DICE/EA requires you to drop your firewall to make it work. I still can't find the original article that refers to these ports helping game performance. From my experience if you require a port open for a game/application to work, the game/application will simply not work with out that port open. Not "increase stability" by opening ports. not sure if I am explaining my self properly.

I know, it is BS. I was able to play without these open but game play has been smooth now with them open when I fly. when i take them out i get the turbulance effect CONSTINOUSLY (like once every 15 seconds) regardless of what the plane is doing. Just flying level and slow and it was throwing my aim off all the time so i couldn't hit anything.

After the patch, I may disable them and see how it goes. I have more open because I only have 12 slots, heres the original post by EA:
