I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Having recently unlocked the infared scope for my SCAR-H rifle, I now understand why some guys have been able to see me and kill me with suspicious regularity. The IR scope, especially in night maps such as Tehran Highway, lets you see almost everyone in range. I was killing guys last night who probably thought there was no way anyone could see them.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Excuses some but to put almost a full clip into a player and then die to find he is 100% health.
would you think this suspicious? or maybe its just me?
If my fairy god mother gave me three wishes and the had to be BF3 related what would people wish?
1 The none squad players got booted for not playing properly and playing one man army.
2 The console generation kids got booted for using RPG on infantry down the tunnels and camping there.
3 any camping players (except snippers) for longer than 30 seconds after taking a flag blew up. (move up ffs next flag with your squad)
The reason I feel BF3 is broken all happened with BF BC2 its a console game and the style of game imho sux, I would sooner
they remade 42 with frostbite 2
saying all that, I have had a few good squads while playing and we did well shame its not the norm.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Often i empty a full clip at close range on ppl and find them with full health. then i just guess as wasnt accurate enough and shoot them as soon as i respawn. As for squads all i can say is be on ts with the guys ur playing with then u are unbetable. thats what i and the V clan guys do(we fill up 2 squads) all on ts and just own anyserver until most ppl leave as they are angry about lossing 10 times in a row

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
2 times now(once last night), I emptied a full clip(90% hit rate as the muzzle was in his back, literally) and he didnt die. He turned around and just started jumping up an down and say "LOL" come up in chat. Unloaded my pistol into his face while standing still and he didnt die. Looks like someone coded a godhack. There is no way this was lag as I've come to recognize the difference years ago in 42.
looks like fpscheats.com still winning and pwning punkbuster, vax and others. what a shame.
That said, I think that aiming and hitting are easier and the lethality of modern weapons reduces the effects of most hacks in bf3 but that might just be my observation.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
How many times have I told this very same story! It was like a dream or nightmare except it always ended with Gib turning and killing me with a spoon or fork or something (perhaps it was a sporK?) Ah yes, the dreaded Gib spork of death![JiF]Gib wrote:2 times now(once last night), I emptied a full clip(90% hit rate as the muzzle was in his back, literally) and he didnt die... .
If you ever get tired of chasing the latest game, grab your spork and come visit us old timers (and those youngsters who can't afford the upgrades) on the 42 server. It's still a good game and hackers generally don't bother us there.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Re hacking, it's interesting that for the first few days after BF3 came out, there were no PB bans. Then they started coming fast and furious, and then they tailed off again. I imagine there is a race between PB and the hackers, and once PB catches up, the hackers go to work and defeat whatever the latest countermeaures are. I am now starting to see PB bans again, so perhaps PB is catching up.
The other thing I'm realizing using the IR scope is that it makes it very easy to tag other players with the Q key from a distance, letting your squad mates fix the enemy's position and go after it. Another reason why some guys seem to know where you are - you've been tagged!

When I look through the server logs of our server, it actually says that PB bans is disabled for now. this is one of the reasons why I got the server to stream to PBBans.
Not sure when PB will start enforcing the bans.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Gotta agree on the thermal vision. I unlocked it for tanks about a week ago and the first time I used it I felt like I was cheating… I racked up 20 kills and no deaths. It's almost impossible for enemy soldiers to hide, and I can see through smoke and attack tanks and they have no idea where I'm shooting from. Combine that with the canister shell and it's one hit/kill for anyone that's walking in the open.
The best way I've found to counter thermal cams/scopes is to stay near buildings and trash piles that are on fire. It makes everything a bright mess and can buy you some time to launch a few grenade rounds off if you're on foot.
I unlocked the CITV station in the tanks and it lets you laser designate targets. Not entirely useful at this point, but I can see it being worthwhile once more and more players rank up and get weapons that can utilize the targeting. I'm guessing that's going to be true with a lot of the more advanced weaponry in game.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Aha, that also explains why tanks seem to kill me so easily many times.
Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
With tanks dont forget the Proximity Scan gadget. After I unlocked it I realized that's how guys finding infantry in a tank.
Jimbo, Gav and I messed around last night and there is a bug in game with movable items. For us we found some were seeing a chair, and others were not. There was also a barrel for some, but not there for others. Same bug issue from BC2 I heard. Oh, and sometimes you can shoot through them, other times not. Seems random but more research would have to be done.
Safe to say the game needs a truck load of polish yet but that's Dice's way of making a game and 42 had 6 patches before it was polished.
Also, from my godhack experience it turns out that is also a bug. Last night I ran up to gav with my knife out after removing Jimbo's tags and Gav said on his end he shot me pb and showed the hit/splatter. On my end 100% health yet, then I knifed him. I do remember the guy had his knife out so there may be some bug where when you swing your knife or something, you are temporarily unkillable.
At this point, even with the professional for purchase hacks that wont probably ever be caught and stopped (fpscheats.com) I think the vast majority of the things we see are either gadget effects(proximity senssor, IR Scope) or are plain bugs - and real big buggers too!
One last example. I had my Stinger out last night...waited and waited after I got lock on tone to fire for him to first drop flares but this guy never did. Every time I did fire, he poped flares. Turns out the tone in planes changes from tracking tone, locked on tone, missle fire tone. He wasn't hacking(but at the time I thought he was). Here's the tone sequence:
"locking on
beeeep beeeep beeeep beeeeep beeeeep
locked on
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
Missile fired
bepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbepbep"
Thats when you know to pop flares.

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Ha Gib,
That is what I do, always wait for the guy to fire off flares before loosing the missile, but when flying I always wait for the missile incoming tone before firing flares.
The way to defeat a flyer is to have a friend with a missile as well and wait for the guy to deflect your shot before your pal fires, this way you are guaranteed a hit. But it does rely on cooperation and communication, plus you both need to keep the flyer lined up at the same time.
If you are operating alone just wait for someone else to fire and then shoot, you can watch an enemy without getting lock, just keep em in sight, you will have enough time to shoot a missile if you get lock immediately after flares are fired and the enemy is not too far away
When airborne you need a co-pilot with IR Flares to help defeat this tactic and again you need to communicate, there is no benefit if both of you fire off flares at the same time as a second missile will take you down.
Re. the IR scope, I played two rounds of davamand peak conquest earlier this week using the A91 with IR scope, RPG/SMAW and mines with the explosives specialisation, I racked up 29k for 3d in the first round and took out 8 vehicles. In the second round I took 38k for 7d and shot down the enemy chopper 3 times and took out 5 vehicles. Getting the MVP1 ribbon twice
I don’t know if the opposition were just poor but it was like shooting fish in a barrel at one point. I completely dominated the access tunnels that run alongside the road tunnels, grabbing a support kit at one stage and setting claymores to slow them down. The only saving grace for the enemy was that the IR scope doesn’t have zoom, with this you could be almost unstoppable

Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
Too true Zouga. I commented last night on TS that you can almost separate the players into those with IR and those without. We were on a non-hard-core map, so I kept track of the kill-cam to see how many times I was killed by some with an IR scope. It was close to 100%.
Re: I'm toning down my "they must be hacking" thoughts
FYI Gav ran into the "god-mode" bug with some guy last night. I forgot to ask if his target had his knife out or anything out of the ordinary. I was contemplating posting that one on the BF3 forum to see if others have experienced that or the "There is no spoon" issue.

Yep I had the M249 & unloaded a whole mag into him straight on, but not once did I register a hit. He was just stood there at C on Bazaar, not taking cover or anything. It almost looked to me like he knew he was unkillable.[JiF]Gib wrote:FYI Gav ran into the "god-mode" bug with some guy last night. OK so having posted this last night, I later encountered another one!!!
We were playing Seine Rush & I came up behind this chap. I could see him & he was moving slightly, but mostly just standing there. He did not have his tags over his head so I thought it was an enemy & unloaded a 30 round mag into him.
Nothing. I was getting hit splatters but no hits registering on sights!!
Then Jimbo asked could someone kill him because he was 'stuck'. Turns out it was his spirit. He was stuck between 2 worlds, neither living nor dead. So I obliged him & dropped a nade at his feet which freed him on his journey to the other side. I tried to revive him got the points but he didn't come back to life??
I think this answers my previous problem
