Skyrim is out Nov 11 - anyone getting it?
The latest chapter in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls RPG series, Skyrim, comes out Nov 11. It looks pretty good, and open-ended. As I'm off that day for Veterans Day and need a pick-me-up due to a prolonged bout of gastrointestinal flu, I might get it so I can play and stay within 5 feet of the bathroom. Now i just have to remember where the bathroom in the local Best Buy is located...

It's available via Steam. I bought it today, still downloading though.

I bought the DVD version to get the manual and map, but it's interesting that you still have to activate it with Steam.
I've been playing most of the day, gotten up to level 7, and I am hooked. The game world is huge and beautiful, and is very open ended and free form. In fact, there aren't even character classes. You choose a race - which gives you certain bonuses - but after that you level up the skills you use. So in my case, that's been medium armor (horned helmet, baby!), axe, shield and necromancy. I'm able to raise things I kill to serve me as a zombie for a few minutes - even animals such as the wolf in the pic below.
And, um, I don't know what to say about that last pic.....

Living the good life in Skyrim.
1. Your own horse - 1,000 gold.
2. Your own house in Whiterun: 5,000 gold.
3. Spiffy set of Elven armor: pick a Master-level locked chest in a dungeon.
4. Deadly waraxe made by finest blacksmith in Whiterun: become a Companion.
5. Hot-looking brunette in black leather named Lydia who follows you around to carry all your excess inventory: Priceless.
