One thing I've noticed with BF3 is that they don't give you access to many high elevation points, especially in urban maps. I keep trying to enter buildings to get on the roof, but there is no door, or no stairway going up.
I wonder if they did this to cut down on the excessive sniping you see in other games.
Where are the roofs and third floors?

Strange Stinky!
Surely if you're going to have a recon class, he's got to be able to find elevated positions to recon from, bit lame if you've got to run around on the ground all the time.

Yep, they seem to be few and far between. Not as easy to snipe with my rocket launcher as on BC2

Stinky - if you could just climb up onto the high points then they would be useless for sniping as then the guys you kill could just come and get you - you need to think ccreatively and find different ways to get you in the air - Bailing from Choppers is the easiest way if you can get a friendly pilot to hover over your preferred location, another neat trick is to use explosives to bring down a pylon and climb op on it either a s a sniping point or to gain access to somewhere else - both of these require collaboration with teammates
On of my favourite tricks is to head in the opposite direction to everyone else, try to get behind the enemy line and find a generic type building that is out of the way, you can pick them off from behind as they are attacking forward and even if people recognise the building type you are on, they will automatically look forwards to try to find you.
Also a good idea to place a radio beacon spawn point nearby in a quiet corner, but not in the place you are shooting from, that way if you are spotted and killed the guy who comes to look (they always do) will not be there when you respawn
