Post by [JiF]FrenchAfroman »

So as my Computer is dying and probably not worht upgrading( i guess i could throw out all the insde and keep the case) i have decided to get a new computer( Mine has served my gaming for about 8 years and i only did an upgrade once bout 4 years ago)

now i went to the computer store around the corner and the guy showed me 2 pcs he thought would be good for working and gaming.

I have no clue what specs i need for a good computer so i m just gonna post the specs they have and would be glad if u guys could tell me if i m getting ripped of or if its a good deal.

Pc 1: Acer Veriton M680G

Intel core i5 650 (3,2 GHz)
2 GB Ram
320 Gb HDD
Dvd Super Multi
Intel graphics on board (for a little more he will put in a good graphic card he told me, but in that case i would ask wich one and ask u guys again)
Sound
10x USB
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
449 Euros plus probably anothe 150 for the graphic card

Pc2 Packard Bell iMedia x5705 Ge:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2,33 GHz
4GB RAM
1TB Hdd
DVD RW
Nvidia Geforce GT130
Lan
HDMI
Firewire
6x USB
Win Vista Home Prem (i want Windows 7 so he told me for 120 Euros more he could put W7 on it)
399 Euros plus 120 for windows 7

So what do u guys think can i play BF3 BFBC2 and all that with one of those, or should i lokk for something else, maybe order one online(if u have any good webpage with a good deal in germany feel free to say so)

I wouldn't get either if I were you. The Core i5 listed is the first gen core i5 and the new 2nd gens are a lot better. I would suggest a core i5 sandy bridge (which is 2nd gen), at least 4GB of ram and an ATI 4850 video card. I've heard the 4850 is a good value card that will work very well for BF3.

Here are a couple ideas to start with. They are combo packs so you would need to put them together yourself if you bought one. The specs listed would work well and should help you find something.

$669.99 Kingston Genesis Grey/Core i5-2500K Gaming SuperCombo

$551.00 Core i5-2500K/P67 Dorm Room Gaming SuperCombo This will need a video card, as one is not included.

I'm a big fan of Intel processors. I use to buy AMD processors since they are cheaper, but since I've switched back to Intel chips my systems just seem more stable.

If you have questions don't hesitate to ask. I love helping people spend money. ;)

I would agree with Mike and not buy either of those, when you buy pre-made computers they are usually more expensive and made with cheaper lower quality brands. Newegg is your best bet and just do some research before hand as you have to make sure all the parts will play nice with each other (Unless you get a combo). If you've never built one before it can be a little scary if you don't know what your doing but it's a lot easier then you think and a lot more rewarding. Don't forget to buy thermal paste as well with whatever combo you buy (I suggest Arctic Silver 5). Make sure the case you want to reuse is a good one, your case may get a bit hotter with newer electronics in it so make sure it has good airflow.

If you can afford it that Kingston Genesis Grey that Mike mentioned looks pretty good, and it meets the BF3 recommended specs so you can be sure it would work well.

Any questions just ask.

The thing is i have absolutely no idea of how to built a computer and even less of how to put the parts together and install windows bios and such. So i guess i m gonna have to find someone who will do so for me

Make sure you get a quad core processor.
I think I remember reading somewhere that Frostbite 2 is designed to work on a quad for best performance.
You don't want to be out of date right from the start & wishing you had just spent that bit more.

Quad Core processor (recommended 2.8ghz or higher)
4 gigs of ram minumum (recommended 6 - 8gigs, DDR3 1333mhz or higher)
500 gig hardrive or higher (Sata 3.0)
400-500w power supply

Theres alot of choices for a video card depending on your budget. A newer series would be better but you can get an older seires "high - end" card cheaper. You can also find great deals on refurbished cards.

Unfortunetly the quad core processor is not needed for most games but Bad Company 2 and BF3 both utilize the 4 cores so its worth the extra money if you would like to run these games. Intel processors are deffinetly better than AMD but do cost a fair amount more.

Pre made gaming systems do come with a large price tag though, if theres anyone locally that can custom build one that may be your best bet. Or maybe we can ship one to you :D

Whats your price range if you dont mind me asking?

Frenchy,

I might be able to get hold of a new copy of Win 7 Genuine for about £40 for you as I have an academic email address and qualify for student prices. It just depends on whether the UK version will work in Germany.

Well I quickly looked at the combo's, but it would work very well for the price. I would consider it more of a budget gaming pc.

Check out http://www.pugetsystems.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; too. They put together some great systems. They use off the shelf components and test extensively before sending it to you. You pay a little more for this kind of service, but if you can't build yourself it's another option. Their systems are very configurable, give em a look. :)

Hey i just took the kingston genesis combo u sended me and went with that to my local pc only store and asked the guy if he coudl put me that togehter, he took a quick look said who ever gav4e me that list knows what he is doing, he then swichted one or two parts to something way stronger and then told me that if i wanted to play bf3 he would advice me to wait till the game comes out so he can exactly tell me me what graphic card he will put in. it will cost me 1000 euros with the building and windows 7. can wait it will be good i think.

gotta go to work now but when i come back i will post the parts he put me together so u guys can tell me if thats good.
those guys in the store had real knowledge(also specialized on gaming) not as the first indian guy with his pc store he seemed to have no idea and just wanted to ge rid of his crap
