Re: Here comes Battlefield 3
I agree Gav, one of my favourite things about BF42 was the non linear aspect of the SP game - you could fight the map anyway you wanted and depending on the result you could end up fighting different maps - I guess a lot of that is to do with teh fact that BF42 did not have a specific storyline (apart from the obvious), whereas newer games tend to construct a story that follows a specific unit/person through a conflict.
I would love to see DICE port the entire BF42 game onto the Frostbite 2 engine it would be unbelievable, failing that It would be amazing if they allowed the modding community to build for the game - could you imagine if the people behind BG42/FH or EoD were to recreate Bf42 on the new engine - I would have to quit y job and go on the sick for addiction to computer games!!
Until that (vey unlikely) turn of events happens, here is some info on BF3 server costs. I suspect that these will require a level of contribution form the community beyond what we expect/currently have and it will depend a lot on how many people get the game as well. I will play on PS3 initially but having spokne to the Boss I have managed to get outline approval for a new PC - now I need to start work on preparing her for the estimated costs...

Re: Here comes Battlefield 3
There was recently a facts sheet released that gave all the weapons, vehicles, weapon attachments, vehicle upgrades, etc.. available so far. This list is of course subject to change but it still gives a nice view of what will be available for multiplayer mayhem.

A little bit of Jets gameplay, no sound but I'm sure you can imagine wearing headphones what it will sound like.

Wow, that jet gameplay looks amazing! You can even see the reflection within the cockpit window, their new engine is amazing. Can't wait until the beta to see if they have improved over the alpha. Hoping to give as much feedback as I can to help for a better Oct. release

Riceman, this was the one that was taken down not the jet one. Don't know how long this one will last though.

Everyone should enter this contest to win a ranked server for 3 months.

Co-op Details
More info on the game changing conditions - very odd choice
So it looks as though I may get a laptop as a replacement for my outdated Desktop, if so I might have difficulties with video but my main question is in reklation to the new core i chips from Intel - is a core i7 better/worse/the same as a quad core?
Bizzarely there is going to be a BF3 Book...?The co-op missions in Battlefield 3 take place in the same world as the single player campaign, and follows a unique series of events that lead up to an explosive finish. Players in co-op will take the role of soldiers that are not tied to any one particular branch of the Armed Forces. This is an intentional design decision to allow for a vast variety in gameplay in the different co-op missions.
Lend a helping hand
To survive through the co-op missions, you’ll need to stay close to your buddy. If he goes down, lend a helping hand with the new co-op “Man down!” mechanic, that lets you revive him in the heat of battle. While being down, you can still use your secondary weapon to defend yourself, while slowly crawling to a safer spot where your friend can help you without getting shot. If both of you go down, it’s game over.
You fight together. You die together. And you score together. After having cleared a co-op mission with your friend, your total combined score will be displayed via Battlelog, our suite of free social features that connect all Battlefield 3 players. Missions are designed to be shorter than single player missions, so you can easily do multiple rounds in an evening to try and beat your friends’ high score. The best score of your Friend will be displayed for each mission, so you know what to aim for.
Difficulty is high. Spinner and his colleagues are going for a tough challenge in all missions. Also, since competitive players will likely try each mission several times, all of the co-op missions contain randomized elements to keep every playthrough fresh. Clearing the co-op missions not only gives you scores and bragging rights – it also has benefits for your multiplayer career. There are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the regular multiplayer modes. These unlocks are based on your combined scores ackumulated throughout the co-op campaign

Re: Here comes Battlefield 3
I remember hearing about the BF3 book... I don't think ill be picking it up though.
As for the new battle log/no-ingame server browser, I like it a lot. Although the Alpha was full of bugs, I really liked how the battlelog worked and it made getting into the game very fast. It just boots the game instantly, no need to wait for the game to load and then find a game. Battlelog opens up in your browser, you pick and game, and you're then instantly loading into the game.
With all new tech it usually run better than previous models. The Core i3 and i5 processors are both dualcore, but the i5 has turbo boost which essential overclocks the processor in times of high demand. The new Core i7 is a quad core, but also with the turbo boot technology. So even though AMD has 6 core processors and quadcore has been around for some time, the i7's are very good/top-of-the-line in comparison. I'd go with the i7 if you have the money, I just got a laptop with a 2.7 Ghz Core i7 and with the turbo boost it clocks up to 3.2 Ghz.
However, you're always going to end up spending more on a laptop then a desktop if you were to build your own...

Zouga I saw this advertised today! Might be a bit pricey for work to buy you though, but with the money off deals you could tell how much you are saving them!!![JiF]zougathefist wrote:So it looks as though I may get a laptop as a replacement for my outdated Desktop, if so I might have difficulties with video but my main question is in reklation to the new core i chips from Intel - is a core i7 better/worse/the same as a quad core?
You'd also have to explain why you were getting the Home Premium OS of W7 which I don't think will actually work on a domained corporate network.

Re: Here comes Battlefield 3
Thanks Gav,
I get to keep my work Laptop, it is an intel Latitude E4310 Core i5
they cost approx £1200. The problem is that it doesn't have teh graphiocs capability to run BF3 (i think) and I am not actually allowed to install/run any non work applications on it.
I have admin rights but when I connect to the network in the office certain things show up and I get emails from the ISS team. E.g. When I installed BF42, Punkbuster kept trying to connect through the office firewall and I was told to remove it.
I really like the look of that laptop though,I need to replace my home desktop which is a huge, underpowered Dell 3100 with a Pent4 HT.
like Corn I guess I need to get a budget before I ask for advice in what to get

Re: Here comes Battlefield 3
Well if you need any advice or help on deciding we're always here. If you're really thinking about replacing your desktop you can't beat the savings you get with building your own computer. I don't know how well it works with shipping to the UK but newegg.com has always been my choice for computer parts. As daunting as it may sound, building a computer from scratch is quite easy, especially with all of the tech guides available online. With that in mind, you could easily build a powerful enough computer for around $800 that will be more than capable of handling BF3.[JiF]zougathefist wrote:Thanks Gav,

As for a laptop, you will always end up spending more on this kind of hardware, but there are plenty of companies out there that offer good hardware at a decent price. Its unfortunate, but us PC gamers always end up spending more to enjoy the way games were meant to be played, but I know that paying this premium pays off in the end when compared to consoles.
