"The Guns of Navarone"! Thanks for reminding me... that was a great movie - I will try to get it for the weekend.
And "King Rat" is a great read as well ~ I highly recommend James Clavell´s books. Though, "King Rat" is the only WWII themed among them.

Another good Raid movie:[JiF]zougathefist wrote:Three 'Raid' movies

Story of the rescue of 500 USA POW's in the Philippines near the end of the war, jut before they would have all been executed.
That made me remember two other good POW movies:
The Great Escape (Steve McQueen)
Stalag 17
And yes, force 10 from Navarone is rubbish. It was on the Military channel last month. I had forgotten how crappy is was.

Re: WW 2Movies
Yeah, I read the book Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides about this recently - its an incredible story - all the better because its true
Re: WW 2Movies
Considering the fact Saints and Soldiers was extremely low budget, it was a VERY good wwii film.
I'm working on solving the gas crisis.

Re: WW 2Movies
I just watched this really good WW1 movie - The lost battalion
Fact-based war drama about an American battalion of over 500 men which gets trapped behind enemy lines in the Argonne Forest in October 1918 France during the closing weeks of World War I.
It's really good well worth watching here is some more info ...

Re: WW 2Movies
I recently saw two 1960's war flicks, I had not seen before.
Netflix has these any many others in their "watch Instantly" streaming service
Ambush Bay
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambush_Bay
This one was kinda lame, Mickey Rooney was a little too old for his role
633 Squadron
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/633_Squadron
This was pretty good, with Cliff Robertson.
That reminded me of Cliff's best war flick about a combined US-Canadian Unit:
The Devils Brigade

Re: WW 2Movies
watched "hill 60" last week. movie about australian mine workers in WW1, digging tunnels in france under the german trenches and then blowing them up. Real story with real carachters so it makes it even better when u know dam that guy really did that.
"tunnel rats" a movie about us soldiers in vietnam crawling around vietcong tunnels was very disapointing

If we make prisons a living hell for them, then we might just be sending out devils once they are released. Cruel methods to achieve discipline are a thing of the past! So, keep on dancing! Byron F. Garcia.
