Truthfully, it's actually not too bad. I have been doing testing with it at work, making sure all the software that we use will be vista-compatible. I personally won't buy it until SP1 comes out (so all the initial bugs can get pushed out). As far as gaming is concerned, if I remember correctly, it's actually the same performance. Of course you need a better system anyway to run the OS and at least 2GB imo.

I done some beta testing with Vista and it was ok. I have been told that if your drivers and such are NOT MS certified then Vista wont let you install them like you can with XP. I haven't been able to verify this as I don't have a retail version of it but if its basically the same as the beta then then you can install the non MS certified drivers.

I did like the performance dealie that is suppose to be in Vista, not sure if they included it or not in the retail version. When I was testing Vista I done some gaming on it and it wasn't to bad but the performance thing thats in the retail version is suppose to optimize the performance according to what your doing. When gaming its suppose to shut down what you don't need and change some of the PC settings to provide you with maximum performance and its also suppose to do the same for video editing, word processing and so on. From what I understood it will remember the settings it makes for each and every thing you do and will change to that pre-set settings file it makes when you start the game up or what ever else you start up.

I'll wait a good little while before I get Vista.

Yep, won't let you install non-vista drivers at all from what I have seen. I am supose to be running it to test here at work and I don't want to.
One of the other guys here is and he can't install our printer  From what I have seen it requires a lot from hardware and for the life of me I can't see what it gives you in return to make you want to use it.

Well that will make Tissueman happy

A: Will it be more reliable?
B: Run faster?
C: Take up less space and do more?
E: Be easier to use?
F: Be more secure?
D: Make more money for Microsoft?

The only one I know for sure is D, the rest are still up in the air :)

I don't know about the retail version but I know the beta version I had required 6 gig of space for install and then another 4 gig for operation.
