Lord of the Rings Online

Post by [JiF]Uncle Stinky »

When Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) first came out, I tried it, played for a few months and then stopped. I liked it, but I couldn't justify the $15/month I was playing for the time I spent.

Well, fast forward a year or two, and I'm back. Why? two reasons:

First, it is now free to play. You buy the game, and there are no monthly charges. That said, they do try to get money from you to unlock game features, such as extra character slots, additional bag space, uber gear, etc.

Second, I got sick of World of Warcraft and ended my subscription.

So I'm now back in Middle Earth, levelling my Hobbit Minstrel (Stroons), Elf Hunter (Stinkborn), Human Loremaster (Johnnylarue) and Dwarf Champion (Edgrimli). The game has it's own quirky charm, and I'm happy playing.

If anyone else is considering giving it a try, join the Silverlode server and get in touch with one of my toons. I think that Turbine did the best job with the Hobbit starting area, so I'd suggest you make a Hobbit character. As weird as it may sound, it's kid of soothing to traipse around the Shire with my minstrel.
