Let's talk about the bots
Is it just me, or do others notice a change in bot behavior? In some ways, they seem smarter -- I've even seen some raid a main spawn point, or chase me down when I'm hiding.
But the area where I sense the greatest change is in their marksmanship. On some maps, it seems at least half of my deaths are from incredible bot sniping (and not always with a rifle -- I've been taken out at long range by pistols and zooks). It's to the point where I now have an internal clock ticking, saying, "OK, it's been 3 minutes, so any second now I'll be killed by a bot sniper."
They also have amazing pilot skills (love that pinpoint level bombing they do on AA guns), and even AA skills (all I can say is, do NOT fly near a bot in a halftrack).
I'm not sure it's gotten to the point where it's affecting my enjoyment of the game, but I do wonder if at some point in the last month or two someone tweaked the bot AI.
The scarier alternative is that they have enrolled in the training programs offered by Camp Gib, and Gib is preparing his Bot Army to take dominion over us all.

Re: Let's talk about the bots
You are correct Stinky. Since we have had the new server the bots are smarter, more aggressive, and more numerous.
I've seen bot pilots that are better than a lot of Jiffers (including me)
I think Mike turned up the AI setting.

The AI setting is the same. However, if the setting is a percentage of CPU power, and I believe it is. Then the bots are getting more attention from the CPU since this server is much, much more powerful than our previous.

The bots are getting their revenge for all the times that they have been Def gunned to pieces

Re: Let's talk about the bots
Bots have definitley got feistier, and sneakier. It seems more noticable on the BG mod.
I bailed at height over a flag last night and got sniped by a bot, didn't even have my chute open yet
I think bots now have an unfair advantage. Should we lower the server AI settings to compensate?

heheh yep, I noticed on some maps, bot artillery will now continue shelling an enemy flag, even if it's totally deserted. Wander through by chance and boom!![JiF]Sgt Shellshocked wrote:The bots are getting their revenge for all the times that they have been Def gunned to pieces

Ha ha, I remember that last night WT. That was during the epic Attack of the Unarmed Float Planes.

I think smarter Bots are cool, but sometimes its annoying when the Bots got to much Snipers. But the worst in my opinion are the Bots when they shoot down Planes with mounted machineguns. They kill me faster then i could even jump out. ^^
Seems a bit unbalanced. But the last point was even on the last server.

Re: Let's talk about the bots
I currently play BF2 on Team servers where they have the bot AI ramped up to between 80 & 90%.
It makes for really tough play, but you learn to adapt & overcome. So at the minute you may be running around like you used to thinking you can just pick them off at will. However you've got to start to play smarter with more stealth. It is much more like reality. You come to a corner of a building, don't rush around the corner, but take your time to assess what is waiting for you. You have to learn to use cover better & plan ahead more about moving around the map.
You should try dog fighting against a juiced bot in a jet, who once you get an initial lock, is dodging & swerving all over just like a human to avoid you maintaining the lock. Or bots that once they have seen you be it on foot or in a tank, will pursue you to the death.
Stick with it Stinky, you'll see it as more of a challenge in time, which to me is only a good thing. Of course you'll still get the amazing kill from half way across the map with a pistol, but c'est la vie!
Cheers

Re: Let's talk about the bots
Sgt. Rock never fought against bots like that?
As I recall, there were people who had never heard of Sgt. Rock. Here are some pics. He was a comic book character who almost always had a cigarette dangling for his lips and two Thompson submachine guns in his hands, blazing away at tanks and whatever else was in his way. He was Rambo before there was a Rambo. I'm sure he could snipe a Kraut from 300 yards away with his Colt 45.

Gav -- what you're describing also sounds like Arma II. What I like about BF42 is that it is more like Sgt Rock's version of WWII.

Re: Let's talk about the bots
Yesterday, i had a bot kill me with a throwing knife, kind of refreshing, and definitely upped my attention mode!

Re: Let's talk about the bots
Ha! I was wondeirng if they should be turned down. I'd leave them where they are now.
If I want to get sniped every 5 seconds, I'll play BC2.
