From the poorly named pile - ladies and gentlemen I give you "Big Log"
(ignore the mullet and sleeveless shirts - all of which scream 1980's, this is not a bad tune.)

OK, I'll give this a try.

Lyle Lovett singing Bears, with some of rocking-est mandolin and dobro you will ever hear (after the first complete chorus).

This song was written by Steve Fromholz, who was part of the Texas outlaw/folk scene of the 1970s.

Continuing the Texas outlaw music theme, here's one that you may recognize from the closing credits to The Big Lebowski. Townes Van Zandt's version of the Rolling Stones' Dead Flowers. Van Zandt is the guy who write the original Pancho and Lefty, and was a fantastic singer/songwriters. His scratchy, mournful voice actually sounds better on this to me than Mick Jagger's.

Unfortunately, he died in 1997.

Nice ones guys. What was that country track from Some Girls? The Girl with the Far-Away Eyes?

I clearly remember Green Eyed Lady, but would have never known who did it.

Steve Earle calls himself Van Zandt's protege - he did a whole CD of his take on Townes' songs (called, naturally, Townes). It's well worth a listen. Here's one version Earle did on the Letterman show -- very nice guitar playing. Guys like Earle, Robert Earl Keen and Pat Green are carrying on that Texas music tradition.

Man, I hope Stephen Colbert doesn't spot this.
