Pretty funny. I was up in DC last October and the Metro was my #1 source of transportation while I was travelling around being a history nerd. I'd say well over half of the escalators were out of service, but unlike the rest of America, most of the local population didn't seem to be grossly overweight. Probably all part of some Obama plan to force American's to use the stairs and get some exercise.
I sooooo wish I could ride a train in to work every day. I'm over my love affair with cars... especially at $2.90 a gallon. Plus trains are so cool.

I just noticed you're in Charleston. My two brothers and I (with families in tow) used to rent a big house down south of you on Edisto Island for a week in June. It was fantastic; we'd buy fresh seafood every day, throw it on the grill and suck down a few Palmettos while it cooked.

Yeah it's hard to beat a lazy summer on the beach. There's tons of Fairfaxer transplants down here. You probably felt right at home.
