Re: Musicians
I'll see if Mike will set up a separate area for Musicians so you can collaborate in there. It may take a couple of days as it is a holiday and I think some new WOW thing came out and he's been known to go over to the dark side for days at a time.
Tissue
PS This is a cool idea guys. Can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Re: Musicians
here´s one site with tabulature Alfred http://www.guitaretab.com/k/kingston-trio/22942.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and one with tab & chords http://www.azchords.com/k/kingstontrio- ... 58058.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, he probably needs to combine a little bit, eg. play the intro on strings as shown in tab and then switch to chords, make sure that the melody is strummed near the bridge,- makes it sound more like banjo...

by the way Alfred, the time this song was written they used mostly different tunings then we play today, they are called "open tunings" and thats the way this song was played too originally (on the banjo), probably in open G tune, i tried to figure it out and recorded it for your son, you can watch me play tom dooley here http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=zoe5c3&s=7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, i played it in open D tune since i was too lazy to detune my steel guitar:)) the great advantage of open tunings is, that you can strum the strings through, without the need of doing something with your left hand & you already have a whole chord, in my case (open d) it would be a d major but i used a capo on the 2nd fret to be in tonality with the recording by the Kingston Trio,- since this is the most famous recording but it´s played on two guitars, so it´s in e major, i tried a little combination of fingerpicking, melody & chords, guess thats the way it was played by then, can write you down the tab during the holidays if you want me too, i don´t know how advanced your son is with his guitar playing & i don´t want to confuse him either, lol, but the fact is, that its much easier to play with open tuning ...
