Musicians
So Gib has a new Guitar, Riceman just bought some drum stuff, Gnome-Father plays guitar. I know a few of you are in bands (school and other types). This got me to wondering about the musicians in here. So what do you play and where do you play?
I started playing acoustic guitar when I was 51. I began writing songs for my grandkids and still do that, but I also have written a few other songs. I mainly play for my own amusement, but I do play out 2-4 times a year at a local winery when my songwriting group plays there. I play first before anyone shows up - do 3-4 songs then listen to the people that can really play and sing.
I play a Taylor 314CE (currently in Taylor's shop getting a new body - the old one cracked across the grain on the cut away horn). I'm playing my Breedlove AC25/SM in the meantime.
And you?

Re: Musicians
I started playing guitar two years ago. I got my sister's old guitar (Half-size guitar xD), and learned some chords by my sister's boyfriend.
After six months I started on a music school. I went there for about a year, then I had a six-month break.
I played "Is there anybody out there?" - By Pink Floyd, with a friend on a school-"concert".
Now I've started on another music-school, which is a lot bigger. I played Nothing Else Matters by Metallica and Hurt by Johnny Cash yesterday. With another guitarist, and some singers.
I just learned Asturias on guitar too.
I have a "wannabe-strat" by Louder. And a spanish acoustic guitar.
In 2012 I'm gonna spend the summer in the US, and I'm gonna by a new electric guitar. Probably a Gibson Les Paul. It will cost about 50% less than if I'd buy it in Norway. (Including special shipping).

Re: Musicians
I play the Bass.
Fender Precision (my baby) with a Peavey TKO 65, been playing since I was around 16 so over 20 yrs now. Had a couple of bands when I first started but went off and did others things. I now just play for my own amusement. Never really got into learning songs, I just like to improvise what's in my head. I like to strum, pluck and play da funky stuff, I like to mute alot but I'm just getting the hang at slapping. I mostly just riff out, friends growing up use to call me the Riff Master .
P.S. I've had that Peavey for over 20 yrs now....those Peavey's last forever!
Here's a pic I scanned in from around 20 years ago when my dad was an immigration officer and he brought the Rolling Stones into Canada. ( I've since replaced the pic guard and gave it to my brother-in-law who's a big stones fan).
Dat, I would totally be into doing that, I would have to figure out how to since my audigy sound card might not cut the butter. And I think there's a few of us bassists here so we would have to duke it out on the field to see who gets to do it.

BTW. Dat,
If your looking for a place for uploading your mp3 to download there's a site I've been using that works great. Its called Dropbox, you can upload your mp3's, pics, and other files and it sets you up with a link to play / download. And if you sign up with this link you and me both get an extra 250mb of storage.
Same goes for anyone else interested, click on the link.....you getta 250 and I getta 250.
Link: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTQyMzM2MDE5
When you upload a file (into the "public" folder), right click on it then "copy public link" and then paste the link in the forum. It will forward the person who clicks on it to a page that will play the mp3.
Like this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4233601/Bass/MetalJay.mp3
And this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4233601/Bass/fu ... licked.mp3
And this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4233601/Bass/babyclicked.mp3
And this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4233601/Bass/Autofilter.mp3
Cheers

Re: Musicians
See what I mean? JiF's Got Talent! Should we hold a competition lol?
You got some nice warm sounds out of your bass, Cow! The metal bass track almost sounds like a lead at times A man after my own heart! Although being a man who loves artificial synthesized sounds, I also appreciated the filtered bass track!
I started playing guitar at 16, during the new romantic/ new wave era during the 80's. I loved bands like Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. So I was always prone to a mixed guitar/electronics sound. I played guitar in various bands, new wave, rock, metal etc.
In the last few years I've kind of gone back to my roots, and started exploring 80's synth styles.
My band Empusa (myself, Brandy and now Miss FD) play a darkish electro dance style.
We've released 2 albums, Domain, and just recently the catalogue of our music "In Passing".
The 3rd album is gonna be the biggest and most proffessional, we've recently acquired new gear which has improved our production techniques tenfold!
Alpha-Matrix records are releasing a song of ours, Burned. We wrote it a short while ago, but they wanted to re-record professionally in studio. so we're now working at Decon Studios in Florida (seen in video below), and WestStudio in Holland.
Here's a home demo of the song, also showing some studio work and whatnot.
Alfa-Matrix have restricted us from streaming it publicly until it's released, but private viewing is allowed, so you need to enter a password to view it.

Here's some shots of the lovely goodies at my disposal at WestStudio, Rotterdam.
While I'm on the same page as Cowhide lol, did you know he designed the cover for our album, In Passing. We had a few options but chose his, because to us it was like seeing a visual representation of our music

Re: Musicians
wicked sandbox you have access to WT!
I think Im going to try this software I found called RiffWorks as an intro to recording the covers I play..one of these days soon I hope.
I too play for my own enjoyment but play for our group of friends here when we go camping and when im in the groove and beers are flowing, we have a lot of fun!
Im looking to get a Talyor 710ce since I fell in love with its tone from the woods they use in it. That'll be awhile since I just got the LP

War, not what I normally listen to, but that was great. I also enjoyed Cowhide's bass. Makes my playing seem amateurish because it is, well amateurish. Thanks for posting guys.

Re: Musicians
Wow this is awesome! Glad to see there's so many good musicians! Cow hide, War Trophy, and Daterminaytah: really nice stuff!
I've been playing drums/percussion for about 9 years now. I've had the same kit that I started with, just cant get rid of it, its a Yamaha YD Series with mahogany shells. I play a mix of sabian and zildjian cymbals: 21" Zildjian Sweet Ride, 20" AA Med Thin Sabian Crash, 18" Med Thin Zildjan Crash, 14" XS Sabian Hi Hats and a 6" zil-bell.
I've been in a lot of bands now that I think about, I started playing shows when I was 15 years old haha. I unfortunately had to quit the last band I was in because of school, just had too much going on. The band was called The Night Away and it was the most fun I've ever had playing in a band, we played the typical alternative rock or however you want to label it. My friends redesigned the myspace page after I left but our recordings are still up there:
http://www.myspace.com/thenightaway" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I also uploaded 6 videos of us playing live awhile back:

Re: Musicians
Hah yes! I like the jam Curtis. If only I had a set of drum mics then we could do some over-the-net collaboration. I've always thought about doing this, looks like I need to start saving up and justify it as a nice little investmentcurtis wrote:cool bass playing cow hide and really interesting video animation WT, also like the "hand is near" a lot Dater and great performance on the drums riceman, really great to have so many musicans on board, makes this server even more comfortable, also uploaded a song of mine, it´s more a free jam, i play everything except the drums, could use your playing here rice http://www.supload.com/listen?s=s7RDf3#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, maybe we should all do a song together, think that would be fun:))

Re: Musicians
I forgot to say that my nerve-system in my hands is "not working as intended". That means that fingerpicking is difficult for me. Im also unable to catch objects like balls with my hands, which means that basketball and me is a bad combination. I was born with it. But difficult dosent mean impossible! With a little practise i can play Dragonforce-Through the fire and flames! (yes, its not that hard, but guitar hero made it look impossible!)
